Gold & silver daily report · 2026-10-24

Report date (Beijing):

All four assets remain Bear and Technical Cheap; yields eased, SLV holdings rose modestly, and silver remains expensive relative to gold.

Gold, silver, GLD and SLV remain below falling 200-day averages, so all four regimes remain Bear. All four are in the Technical Cheap zone after another decline in the October 23 completed session. Silver RSI is near oversold, but the gold/silver ratio remains low in its five-year distribution, leaving silver expensive relative to gold. Nominal and real yields fell materially, yet real yields remain high and the dollar remains above both major averages: macro is restrictive, easing at the margin.

Cheap/Fair/Hot is a technical position relative to the 200-day average, not a claim about intrinsic value. Spot, futures and ETF prices are kept separate.

1. Current prices and ETF mapping

GLD$366.61Yahoo Finance completed close, 2026-10-23
SLV$48.72Yahoo Finance completed close, 2026-10-23

Observed mappings are GLD ≈ gold spot × 0.09177 and SLV ≈ silver spot × 0.90564. These are scenario estimates affected by timing, expenses, cash, tracking error and premiums/discounts—not arbitrage conversions. FMP quote for GLD/SLV returned explicit Starter-plan ACCESS DENIED; equivalent restricted endpoints were not retried. FMP commodity succeeded but identified GCUSD Gold Futures at $4,007.90 as of 2026-10-23 17:00 New York, so it is retained only as a futures cross-check and never presented as spot. Affected ETF live-price fields pivoted to Yahoo completed closes.

2. Regime, current zone and technical bands

Rule: price and SMA50 below a falling SMA200 is Bear; both above a rising SMA200 is Bull; otherwise Transition. Cheap is below 0.90×SMA200, Fair is 0.90–1.05×, and Hot is above 1.05×. Spot averages use the same-period futures series shifted by the current spot/futures basis and are labeled SPOT_PROXY.

AssetRegime / current zoneCheap belowFair bandHot above
Gold spot, GC basis-shiftedBear; Technical Cheap$4,064.26$4,064.26–4,741.63$4,741.63
GLDBear; Technical Cheap$372.79$372.79–434.92$434.92
Silver spot, SI basis-shiftedBear; Technical Cheap$64.28$64.28–75.00$75.00
SLVBear; Technical Cheap$58.46$58.46–68.20$68.20

There is no classification gap today: all four meet the Bear conditions. Technical Cheap inside Bear indicates a large trend deviation, not an automatic buy or reversal signal.

3. Price stage

Gold / GLD

  • GC=F closed $4,010.00 on October 23; SMA50 $4,341.91, SMA200 $4,532.91, with SMA200 down 0.51% from 20 sessions earlier.
  • Futures sit at 3.6% of the 52-week range, 24.6% below the high. RSI14 is 35.9; five-day return -4.1%, 20-day -7.2%.
  • GLD closed $366.61; SMA50 $394.51, SMA200 $414.21; 52-week position 3.2%, drawdown 26.1%, RSI14 37.5, five-day -4.0%, 20-day -6.8%.
  • Support: spot $3,975–3,989 intraday and about $3,901–3,961 at the 52-week proxy lows; GLD $364.33 and $362.32. Resistance: spot $4,064, $4,116–4,164 and the $4,326 proxy SMA50; GLD $369.25, $372.79 and $394.51.
  • Stage meaning: gold is probing lower within Bear/Technical Cheap, but RSI is not extreme. Existing core exposure favors hold/risk control. New risk should be staged, with no reversal claim before the Cheap boundary and SMA50 are recovered.

Silver / SLV

  • SI=F closed $53.960 on October 23; SMA50 $63.05, SMA200 $71.64, with SMA200 down 1.40% from 20 sessions earlier.
  • Futures are at 10.8% of their 52-week range and 53.1% below the high. RSI14 is 27.1; five-day return -5.3%, 20-day -16.0%.
  • SLV closed $48.72; SMA50 $56.99, SMA200 $64.95; 52-week position 10.0%, drawdown 53.9%, RSI14 28.1, five-day -5.4%, 20-day -16.2%.
  • Support: spot $52.91–53.08 intraday and $50 psychological; SLV $47.87 and $42.40. Resistance: spot $54.79, around $58 and the $62.85 proxy SMA50; SLV $48.98, $50.33 and $56.99.
  • Stage meaning: silver is near oversold but retains much higher volatility and a steeper downtrend than gold. Below $58 and SMA50, it remains a fragile Bear-stage asset suitable only for controlled satellite risk.

4. Gold/silver ratio and relative value

Using the primary spot quotes, the ratio is 74.26. Five-year same-session GC=F/SI=F context: 20th percentile 75.72, median 83.92, 80th percentile 88.61; the current spot ratio is around the 18.2nd percentile.

Conclusion: silver is Technical Cheap versus its own SMA200 but remains expensive relative to gold. The ratio is near the 20th-percentile boundary, so the relative overvaluation is easing. A sustained move toward roughly 76–80 would be closer to a neutral relative-value zone. Technical Cheap does not equal relative Cheap.

5. Macro environment

  • U.S. 10-year TIPS real yield: 2.64% on 2026-10-22 (FRED DFII10), versus 2.76% on Oct 21 and 2.77% on Oct 20.
  • Nominal 10-year yield: 4.96% on 2026-10-22 (FRED DGS10); Yahoo ^TNX closed 4.988% on Oct 23, with SMA50 4.984% and SMA200 4.527%.
  • DXY proxy DX-Y.NYB: 101.752 completed close on Oct 23, versus SMA50 100.539 and SMA200 99.555, about 0.8% below its 52-week high.
  • NFCI: -0.496 for 2026-10-16; a negative reading indicates looser-than-average financial conditions.

Assessment: high real yields and a dollar above both averages remain restrictive for non-yielding metals. DFII10 falling from 2.76% to 2.64%, DGS10 declining to 4.96%, and a negative NFCI provide marginal relief. FRED frequencies and dates are shown separately rather than treated as simultaneous.

6. ETF holdings and flow proxies

  • GLD: SPDR's official archive still ends at 1,057.62 tonnes on Oct 21 → 1,045.64 tonnes on Oct 22, down 11.98 tonnes. Oct 23 is not published and is labeled HOLDINGS_UNAVAILABLE. The two dated observations support only the Oct 22 direction and are a HOLDINGS_PROXY, not exact dollar flow.
  • SLV: the iShares page shows 15,485.69 tonnes and 551.30M shares on Oct 22 → 15,499.73 tonnes and 551.80M shares on Oct 23, up 14.04 tonnes and 0.50M shares. Oct 23 NAV was $48.66. Two official dated observations support an increase, still labeled HOLDINGS_PROXY.

SLV therefore saw modest physical-holdings support while price declined. Missing Oct 23 GLD holdings prevent extrapolating the previous day's sharp decline into a new daily outflow claim. Holdings changes, cash creations/redemptions and exchange volume are distinct measures.

7. Slow supply-demand fundamentals

The World Gold Council's Q2 2026 report shows about 289 tonnes of central-bank net purchases in Q2 and roughly 345 tonnes in H1. H1 was the lowest first half since 2022, but reserve diversification and continued purchase intent remain strategic support. WGC's September report shows global gold ETFs attracted about US$10bn and added 67 tonnes to a record 4,256 tonnes as of September 30. This is monthly background, not an Oct 23 GLD daily-flow claim.

The Silver Institute's World Silver Survey 2026 forecasts 639.6Moz of industrial demand, 151.0Moz of photovoltaic demand and a 46.3Moz deficit, the sixth consecutive annual deficit. Solar remains material, but forecast PV silver demand is down 19% as thrifting, copper substitution and lower silver intensity constrain demand elasticity. These slow variables support a long-horizon case but do not override the current Bear regime or establish a unique intrinsic value.

8. Spot-to-ETF scenario mapping

Gold spotEstimated GLDSilver spotEstimated SLV
$3,800$348.72$48$43.47
$4,000$367.08$50$45.28
$3,994.90$366.61$53.796$48.72
$4,200$385.43$58$52.53
$4,500$412.96$65$58.87

The table uses today's observed mapping. Actual ETF prices remain sensitive to timing, expenses, cash, tracking error and premiums/discounts.

9. Three horizons

  • Tactical, weeks: all four assets are Technical Cheap inside Bear regimes; silver is near oversold, creating both rebound risk and continued downside risk. Gold must first reclaim $4,064 and silver $54.79–58. Avoid one-shot dip buying before those levels.
  • Cyclical, months: gold above the roughly $4,326 spot-proxy SMA50 / GC $4,342 and silver above $62.85 proxy / SI $63.05 would create Bear→Transition candidates. Multiple closes and ETF-holdings confirmation remain required.
  • Strategic, year+: central-bank demand, reserve diversification and quarterly global gold-ETF inflows support gold as a core diversifier. Silver's persistent deficit offers upside elasticity, but PV thrifting, substitution, cyclicality and high volatility argue for smaller, controlled satellite exposure.

10. Action map and data health

  • Gold spot reclaiming and holding $4,064 permits small staged additions; below $3,975, pause new risk. A move above $4,326–4,342 is needed for stronger trend confirmation.
  • GLD support is $364.33 / $362.32. Reclaim $372.79 to leave Technical Cheap and $394.51 for meaningful medium-term repair.
  • Silver holding $52.91 and breaking $54.79–58 permits controlled testing only; increase risk above $62.85–63.05. Below $52.91, slow or reduce risk.
  • SLV support is $47.87 / $42.40; reclaiming $50.33 is a first step, while $56.99–58.46 is needed for medium-term repair and exit from Technical Cheap.
  • If real yields return toward 3%, ^TNX moves back above 5.1%, and DXY breaks roughly 102.58, tighten precious-metals addition rules further.

Data health: FMP quote returned explicit ACCESS DENIED and was not retried; FMP commodity is used only as a Gold Futures cross-check. Yahoo completed bars run through 2026-10-23; Kitco and Trading Economics provide Oct 23 weekend-last true spot; FRED DFII10/DGS10 end Oct 22 and NFCI Oct 16; official GLD holdings end Oct 22 while SLV ends Oct 23. WGC and Silver Institute are verified slow-moving fundamentals. No futures price is presented as spot, no holdings proxy as exact cash flow, and no technical cheapness as intrinsic-value discount.
