ETH daily report · 2026-10-18

Report date (Beijing):

ETH remains in TRANSITION. CoinMetrics MVRV is 1.0532, implying realized price near $2,274, but the on-chain snapshot is older than 24 hours and its score is neutralized. ETH and ETH/BTC remain below $2,500 and 0.030, so the framework keeps a small-reduction review active.

Bottom line: live ETHUSDT is about $2,412.34, while the completed October 17 daily close was $2,402.82. ETH remains TRANSITION / Weak-Transition. MVRV fell to 1.0532, only modestly above aggregate realized cost, but the snapshot is older than 24 hours and cannot support an add signal by itself. The completed ETH close remains below $2,500 and ETH/BTC remains below 0.030, so the dual reduction review stays active.

FMP's DXY history endpoint previously returned ACCESS DENIED, so no equivalent retry was made; Yahoo DX-Y.NYB is the fallback. Because the critical on-chain snapshot is older than 24 hours, MVRV receives zero effective contribution despite its nominally inexpensive reading.

2. Price regime, structural health and sub-zone

BTCUSDT completed close (Oct 17)$81,491.04-0.15%-1.80%+6.64%
Completed ETH/BTC ratio0.029486———

ETH's 200-day SMA is $2,147.28, its annualized six-month SMA slope is -49.78%, and RSI(14) is 37.14. Price is above the SMA but slope is below -5%, so the regime remains TRANSITION. All five latest completed sessions were TRANSITION.

Structural health is -1. ETH/BTC is at the 15.99th five-year percentile and therefore has not yet triggered the below-10% penalty. CoinMetrics' fee proxy is down 38.4% year over year, triggering the >30% structural deduction but not the >70% red flag. Missing L2 capture stays neutral. The sub-zone is Weak-Transition, not a clean cheap-buy setup.

Standard MVRV-Z is unavailable; the table uses the transparent ratio only. The nominal score is -0.15. With stale MVRV neutralized, the effective score is -0.25, still in hold/watch. Missing and stale items remain at zero; weights are not redistributed.

4. Valuation action versus trigger action

The valuation layer says hold/watch. The trigger layer is independent: the October 17 completed close satisfies both ETH below $2,500 and ETH/BTC below 0.030, so the action remains review a small reduction and pause active adding. This is not a liquidation signal; it favors trimming tactical high-beta exposure while waiting for confirmation.

MVRV=1 currently maps to realized price near $2,274. Realized price moves as coins change hands and is not fixed support; under a simple same-snapshot approximation, ETH would need to trade near that level for MVRV to equal one.

5. Three independent horizons

  • Tactical, 1-4 weeks: defensive. RSI is not extremely oversold, the 3.08 long/short ratio is crowded, and the dual reduction trigger remains active.
  • Cyclical, 1-6 months: neutral to weak. Price is above the 200-day SMA, but the SMA is still falling. U.S. spot ETH ETFs lost $69.7m on Oct 16 and about $320.1m over the latest five sessions.
  • Strategic, 6-24 months: conditional hold. Positive real yield and proximity to realized cost offer a cushion, but long-run returns still depend on ETH/BTC, L1 fee capture, net issuance and institutional demand.

6. Hard trigger lines

  • Clear the reduction review: completed close above $2,500 and ETH/BTC above 0.030; two consecutive confirmations are stronger.
  • Review adding: fresh MVRV at or below 1.05 while price holds the 200-day SMA, or ETH above $2,700 with ETH/BTC above 0.032. Tactical adding also requires RSI below 65, funding below 0.005%/8h, OI below 2.35m ETH and long/short below 2.0; long/short currently fails.
  • Trend red line: completed close below the dynamic 200-day SMA near $2,147 while slope remains below -5%.
  • Structural red lines: ETH/BTC below the 10th five-year percentile, negative real yield, L2 capture below 2%, or a prolonged >70% fee/burn decline. The current 38.4% fee-proxy decline is a deduction, not yet the strong red flag.

7. BMNR mapping and scenarios

BMNR closed October 16 at $21.66, with 1d/7d/30d returns of -7.28%/-9.86%/-9.33%. SBET closed at $7.57, with -7.46%/-11.87%/-8.35%. The latest official disclosure remains the Oct 13 filing with holdings measured Oct 11: 6,028,946 ETH, including 5,067,309 staked ETH, plus 214 BTC, about $612m cash and securities, $180m Beast Industries and $85m ORBS. No verifiable historical average ETH cost was disclosed.

Using 569,576,806 shares returned by FMP but sourced to the stale May 31 filing, ETH per share is about 0.010585. At live ETHUSDT, ETH-only NAV is about $25.53/share and disclosed gross-asset NAV about $27.10/share. BMNR trades near 0.85x ETH-only NAV or 0.80x gross NAV. The discount is not an arbitrage guarantee and excludes liabilities, taxes, senior claims, execution costs and subsequent ATM dilution.

8. Cross-asset and macro context

CoinGecko observed BTC dominance near 59.49% and ETH near 10.67% on Oct 18. ETH lost 1.82% over 30 days while BTC gained 6.64%, so relative weakness persists. Latest FRED observations are 2.78% 10-year real yield (Oct 15), 5.10% nominal 10-year (Oct 15), $6.756tn Fed assets (Oct 14), $0.886tn Treasury General Account (Oct 14), $0.1bn overnight reverse repo (Oct 16), and $23.343tn M2 (August). Macro carries zero weight in TRANSITION.

9. Sources, gaps and boundaries

The primary price route is the Binance plugin, with FMP used for USD and listed-equity cross-checks; threshold-relevant discrepancies are below 1%. CoinMetrics is the on-chain source of record, but today's snapshot is older than 24 hours and CapRealUSD/standard MVRV-Z are unavailable. DeFiLlama fees are not complete L1 value capture, so missing L2 revenue stays neutral. ETF flow uses the indexed Farside table; exact burn lacks an API key. BMNR holdings come from the SEC, while the share denominator remains stale. This is a conditional research framework, not an automatic trading instruction.
