ETH daily report · 2026-10-17

Report date (Beijing):

CoinMetrics data recovered through October 16 and the MVRV ratio is 1.0624. ETH remains in TRANSITION, while both the completed close and ETH/BTC stay below the $2,500 and 0.030 thresholds. The effective score improves from -0.30 to -0.15, but the small-reduction review remains active.

Bottom line: live ETHUSDT is about $2,421.11 and the October 16 completed daily close was $2,423.54. CoinMetrics on-chain data recovered through October 16, with MVRV at 1.0624, but price trend, ETH/BTC, fee capture and derivatives crowding have not improved together. The completed close remains below $2,500 and ETH/BTC below 0.030, so the dual reduction review remains active.

FMP's DXY history endpoint explicitly returned ACCESS DENIED and was not retried; Yahoo DX-Y.NYB is the fallback. Price and on-chain critical inputs are within 24 hours. L2 capture, exact burn, same-day ETF flow and a current diluted denominator remain incomplete.

2. Price regime, structural health and sub-zone

BTCUSDT completed close, October 16$81,615.64-0.77%-1.23%+7.10%

ETH SMA200 is $2,145.79, its annualized six-month change is -50.47%, and RSI(14) is 38.59. Price is above SMA200 while slope remains below -5%, so the regime is TRANSITION. The latest five completed daily classifications are all TRANSITION.

Structural health is -1. The five-year ETH/BTC percentile is 16.87%, above the 10% penalty line. The CoinMetrics fee proxy is down 37.1% year over year, triggering the >30% structural deduction but not the >70% strong warning. L2 capture remains neutral because it is missing. The sub-zone remains Weak-Transition, not a clean undervaluation signal.

3. Multi-anchor valuation

Standard MVRV-Z was not obtained. The table uses a transparent MVRV ratio proxy and does not mislabel it as a Z-score. The effective total is -0.15, improving by 0.15 from the prior day as fresh on-chain data returned and the fee decline was corrected. It remains in hold/watch. Missing anchors stay at zero without reweighting.

4. Valuation action versus trigger action

Valuation layer: score -0.15 maps to hold/watch. Trigger layer: the October 16 completed close still satisfies ETH<$2,500 and ETH/BTC<0.030, so the operational reading remains review a small reduction and pause active additions. This is not a heavy bearish signal or a call for emotional liquidation; for an existing core allocation, the framework favors trimming tactical high-beta exposure.

MVRV=1 corresponds to realized price near $2,278. Realized price changes with coin transfers and is not fixed support. Current price is only about 6.2% above realized cost, showing modest valuation without resolving trend and value-capture weakness.

5. Three independent horizons

  • Tactical, 1–4 weeks: defensive. RSI is no longer deeply oversold, but long/short is 2.92 and funding is slightly above the 0.005% tactical gate; the dual trigger remains active.
  • Cyclic, 1–6 months: neutral to weak. Price is above SMA200 while the average still falls sharply. The latest complete ETF session showed about $60.3m outflow; ETH/BTC and fees/burn must improve.
  • Strategic, 6–24 months: conditional hold. Positive real yield and modest MVRV provide a cushion, while L1 capture, net issuance, ETF demand and treasury-equity dilution remain decisive.

6. Hard trigger lines

  • Clear reduction review: completed close above $2,500 and ETH/BTC>0.030; two consecutive days provide stronger confirmation.
  • Add review: fresh MVRV≤1.05 while holding SMA200, or ETH>$2,700 with ETH/BTC>0.032. Tactical additions also require RSI<65, funding<0.005%/8h, OI<2.35m ETH and long/short<2.0; long/short currently fails.
  • Trend red line: completed close below dynamic SMA200 near $2,146 while slope remains below -5%.
  • Structural red lines: ETH/BTC percentile<10%, negative real yield, L2 capture<2%, or long-duration fee/burn decline>70%. The current 37.1% fee-proxy decline is a deduction, not the strong red flag.

7. BMNR mapping and scenarios

BMNR closed October 16 at $21.66, with 1d/7d/30d returns of -7.28%/-9.86%/-9.33%. SBET closed at $7.57, returning -7.46%/-11.87%/-8.35%. The latest official disclosure remains the October 13 filing with holdings measured October 11: 6,028,946 ETH, 5,067,309 staked; 214 BTC; about $612m cash and securities; $180m Beast Industries; and $85m ORBS. The filing does not disclose a verifiable historical average ETH cost basis.

Using FMP's 569,576,806 shares, whose underlying filing is dated May 31 and therefore stale, gives 0.010585 ETH/share. At current ETHUSDT, ETH-only NAV is about $25.63/share and gross total-asset NAV about $27.20/share. BMNR trades near 0.85x ETH-only NAV or 0.80x gross assets. This discount is not guaranteed arbitrage because liabilities, taxes, priority claims, execution costs and later ATM dilution remain unresolved.

8. Cross-asset and macro context

CoinGecko observed BTC dominance near 59.33% and ETH near 10.72% on October 17. ETH gained only 0.22% over 30 days versus BTC's 7.10%, so relative weakness has not reversed. Latest FRED observations: real 10Y 2.78% and nominal 10Y 5.10% on October 15; Fed assets $6.756tn and Treasury General Account $0.886tn on October 14; overnight reverse repo $0.1bn on October 16; and M2 $23.343tn for August. Macro carries zero weight in TRANSITION.

9. Sources, missing fields and limits

Binance is the primary price route and FMP supplies aligned USD and equity cross-checks; threshold-critical discrepancies are below 1%. CoinMetrics is the on-chain system of record, while CapRealUSD and standard MVRV-Z are restricted, so only a transparent MVRV ratio proxy is used. Ethereum Launchpad and ValidatorQueue separate protocol yield from advertised third-party yield. DeFiLlama fees are not complete L1 value capture. The Farside page did not parse directly, so the ETF figure uses a SoSoValue republication cross-check. BMNR holdings come from the SEC, while the share denominator is stale. This is a conditional research framework, not an automated trade instruction.
