ETH daily report · 2026-10-16

Report date (Beijing):

ETH rebounded modestly, but the October 15 completed close remained below $2,500 and ETH/BTC below 0.030. The dual reduction review remains active; a failed CoinMetrics refresh neutralizes the stale MVRV anchor and lowers the effective score to -0.30.

Bottom line: live ETHUSDT is about $2,444.30 and the October 15 completed daily close was $2,442.08. Price is above SMA200 but the average still has a deeply negative slope; the five-day persistent regime remains TRANSITION. The completed close satisfies both ETH<$2,500 and ETH/BTC<0.030, so the dual reduction review remains active.

Yahoo DXY was rate-limited. FRED DGS10 timed out, so FMP's 5.10% ten-year Treasury observation for October 15 is the stated fallback. Critical on-chain inputs are older than 24 hours, preventing a fully fresh score.

2. Price regime, structure and sub-zone

ETHUSDT completed close, October 15$2,442.08+0.85%-1.32%+1.83%
BTCUSDT completed close, October 15$82,245.93+0.69%+0.60%+8.73%

ETH SMA200 is $2,143.81, its annualized six-month change is -51.53%, and RSI(14) is 29.60. Price is above SMA200 while slope is below -5%: TRANSITION. The last five completed observations are also TRANSITION, satisfying persistence.

Structural health is -1. The five-year ETH/BTC percentile is about 16.91%, above the 10% penalty line. The fee proxy is down roughly 75.1% year over year, activating the long-duration fee/burn warning. L2 capture is missing and stays neutral. The sub-zone is Weak-Transition: valuation is near realized cost, but trend and structure do not confirm together.

3. Multi-anchor valuation

MVRV-Z was not obtained and the ratio does not substitute for it. The nominal score would remain about -0.20 if the stale MVRV anchor were counted. After neutralization, the effective score is -0.30, on the hold/watch to small-reduce boundary.

4. Action layer: valuation versus triggers

Valuation alone is a low-confidence small-reduce boundary, not a heavy bearish signal. The trigger layer is separate: the October 15 close met ETH<$2,500 and ETH/BTC<0.030, so the operational reading remains review a small reduction in high-beta exposure and wait for threshold recovery. Structural health of -1 imposes no extra cap, but fees and relative strength have not improved.

The stale realized-price proxy is about $2,284. Holding that proxy fixed would imply current MVRV near 1.07, but coin transfers change realized cost; this is sensitivity analysis, not support.

5. Three independent horizons

  • Tactical, 1–4 weeks: defensive. RSI is near oversold, but funding and the long/short ratio remain crowded, while price has not recovered the $2,500/0.030 pair.
  • Cyclic, 1–6 months: neutral to weak. Price remains above SMA200, but the average falls sharply; ETH/BTC, fees/burn and ETF flows must confirm.
  • Strategic, 6–24 months: conditional hold. Positive real yield helps, while L1 value capture, net issuance and treasury-company dilution remain decisive.

6. Hard trigger lines

  • Clear reduction review: completed close above $2,500 and ETH/BTC>0.030; two consecutive days is stronger confirmation.
  • Add review: fresh MVRV≤1.05 while holding SMA200, or ETH>$2,700 with ETH/BTC>0.032; tactical gates also require funding<0.005%/8h, OI<2.35m ETH and long/short<2.0.
  • Trend red line: completed close below dynamic SMA200 near $2,144 while slope remains below -5%.
  • Structural red lines: ETH/BTC percentile<10%, negative real yield, L2 capture<2%, or long-duration burn/fee decline>70%. The fee proxy warning is currently active.

7. BMNR mapping and scenarios

BMNR closed October 15 at $23.36, with 1d/7d/30d returns of +4.99%/-2.83%/-1.02%. SBET closed at $8.18, returning +3.54%/-7.15%/-1.80%. The latest official disclosure remains the October 13 filing with holdings measured October 11: 6,028,946 ETH, 5,067,309 staked; 214 BTC; about $612m cash and securities; $180m Beast Industries; and $85m ORBS.

Using the stale 569,576,806-share denominator gives 0.010585 ETH/share. At current ETHUSDT, ETH-only NAV is roughly $25.87/share and gross total-asset NAV about $27.44/share. BMNR trades near 0.90x ETH-only NAV or 0.85x gross total assets, before liabilities, tax, execution costs and later ATM dilution.

ETH scenarioETH-only NAV/share0.75x1.0x1.2xGross NAV incl. disclosed other assets
$1,800$19.05$14.29$19.05$22.86$20.62
$2,200$23.29$17.47$23.29$27.94$24.86
$2,500$26.46$19.85$26.46$31.75$28.03
$3,000$31.75$23.82$31.75$38.11$33.33
$3,500$37.05$27.79$37.05$44.46$38.62

Key caveats are ATM dilution, persistent treasury-stock discount, ETH/BTC weakness and weak L1 fee capture.

8. Cross-asset and macro context

CoinGecko shows BTC dominance near 59.29% and ETH near 10.71%. ETH's 30-day gain of about 1.8% materially trails BTC's 8.7%, so relative weakness has not reversed. Macro is mixed: nominal 10Y 5.10%, real 10Y 2.84%, Fed assets about $6.756tn, Treasury General Account about $0.886tn, overnight reverse repo about $1.2bn, and M2 $23.343tn for August. Macro carries zero Transition weight and does not offset weak on-chain anchors.

9. Sources, missing fields and limits

Binance is the primary price route and FMP supplies aligned USD/equity closes. CoinMetrics is the on-chain system of record, but today's refresh failed and stale fields are explicitly neutralized. DeFiLlama fees are not complete protocol value capture, inferred burn is not exact EIP-1559 burn, and BMNR NAV is not a price target. The latest U.S. ETH ETF flow was unavailable and is not assumed to be zero. This is a conditional research framework, not an automated trade instruction.
