BTC daily report · 2026-10-21

Report date (Beijing):

BTC remains in a persistent transition regime; stale on-chain anchors and a still-negative 200D slope keep the action at hold/watch.

1. Data health and fallbacks

This report determines the BTC regime before interpreting valuation. The cutoff is approximately 10:20 Beijing time on 2026-10-21. Every return is calculated locally from one continuous Binance 1d completed-close series; live USDT quotes are not presented as delayed USD closes.

2. BTC regime, sub-zone and price

ItemCurrent reading
Live Binance BTCUSDT$82,860.01

Mayer Multiple1.142
RSI(14)40.83
Months since Apr 20, 2024 halvingabout 30 months

Price is above the 200D SMA while the slope is below -5%, so the rules classify the regime as TRANSITION. Every completed day from Oct 16 through Oct 20 is TRANSITION, satisfying five-day persistence. The halving phase is 24–36 months, late-cycle/bear.

MVRV is above 1.5 but price is above the 200D SMA, so the Hot-Transition condition of price below the SMA is not met. There is also no confirmed Cheap-Transition turn. The sub-zone is Sideways-Transition.

3. BTC multi-anchor valuation

Transition weights are fixed at MVRV-Z 25%, Mayer 15%, Production 10%, NUPL 15%, STH 15%, Halving 5%, Hash/AA 5%, Macro 5%, and Derivatives 5%. The MVRV ratio is explanatory at 0% and does not replace MVRV-Z.

CoinMetrics defines CapMVRVCur = market cap / realized cap. Market cap was $1.6466T on Oct 19, while direct realized cap was restricted with 403; it is not reverse-engineered and presented as a direct observation. NUPL = 1 - 1/MVRV = 0.3421 and inherits the same stale timestamp. Perly/Bitview uses MVRV-Z = (market cap - realized cap) / expanding historical standard deviation of market cap; its Oct 20 reading is 0.923. This transparent proxy is not the plain MVRV ratio.

CoinMetrics recorded 648,048 active addresses on Oct 20. The seven-day average of 630,149 was below the 30-day average of 644,637, while the hash-rate seven-day average was 5.7% above its 30-day average. Funding was moderately positive, the account long/short ratio cooled from 1.77 to 1.50 but remained long-heavy, and OI rose slightly over the week. Oct 20 ETF aggregation remained incomplete and is contextual only.

Macro observations: DFII10 2.80% and DGS10 5.15% on Oct 19; WALCL $6.756T and TGA $0.883T on Oct 14; RRP $0.000227T on Oct 20, giving simplified net liquidity near $5.872T. U.S. M2 was $23.343T in August, up about 0.54% month on month. DXY was 101.765 on Oct 21, roughly +3.03% over 30 days. This is U.S. M2, not Global M2.

4. Total score and regime modifier

Forcing the stale/date-level on-chain proxies into the model would give a raw mechanical score near +0.04. After zeroing MVRV-Z and stale derived on-chain contributions, the effective composite is -0.13. About 35% of the weight has fresh, directly interpretable directional coverage; the rest remains neutral without renormalization.

-0.13 maps to hold/watch. The TRANSITION modifier prevents price above the SMA from becoming a standalone add signal: the slope remains deeply negative and critical on-chain anchors are not action-grade. Final action: hold/watch, do not chase; consider staged action only after hard levels also receive trend and fresh on-chain confirmation.

5. Three independent horizons

Tactical, 1–4 weeks

Neutral-defensive. RSI recovered to 40.8 and price remains above the 200D SMA, but the seven-day return is nearly flat. Derivatives crowding cooled without disappearing. Avoid chasing and watch whether the $81K–$83K area forms a higher low.

Cyclic, 1–6 months

Cautious watch. TRANSITION persisted for five days, but the 200D slope is still -31.3%. A cyclic improvement needs a materially less negative slope, continued closes above the SMA, and confirmation from ETF flows, addresses and fresh MVRV-Z. Otherwise a retest of the moving-average region remains plausible.

Strategic, 6–24 months

Keep a core allocation and stage new capital. The MVRV ratio and MVRV-Z proxy are mid-range rather than euphoric, but they are not capitulation readings. Strategic ownership can coexist with tactical restraint; stale or missing fields do not support a precise undervaluation claim.

6. Hard trigger lines

  • Value-watch line: about $76,300, approximately 1.05x the 200D SMA. It is not an automatic buy; require fresh MVRV-Z/MVRV, stabilization and flow confirmation.
  • Trend-add gate: persistent closes above the 200D SMA and the annualized slope converging toward -5%, with non-extreme funding and no sustained ETF outflow. This is not met today.
  • Reduce-watch line: about $109,035, Mayer 1.50. Escalation requires simultaneous MVRV-Z, NUPL, ETF and derivatives overheating.
  • Warning line: the $72,690 200D area. Five completed closes below it with slope below -5% would produce BEAR. If MVRV remains above 1.5, that is Hot-Transition and adds are prohibited.
  • Red line: critical on-chain staleness plus rapidly rising leverage/funding and a break below the 200D SMA. Reduce risk budget rather than using old MVRV as a dip-buy signal.

7. ETH snapshot

Live Binance ETHUSDT was $2,451.51. The Oct 20 completed close was $2,449.20; 1d/7d/30d returns were +1.71% / -1.95% / -7.41%, and RSI(14) was 29.73. FMP ETHUSD is an independent USD cross-check only.

CoinMetrics directly supplied ETH MVRV, but it is older than 24 hours. It is not relabeled as ETH MVRV-Z and does not drive an action call. ETH can be tactically oversold while retaining a negative intermediate trend.

8. MSTR / Strategy mapping

The newest formal holdings disclosure remains Strategy's Oct 19, 2026 8-K through Oct 18: 267 BTC purchased during the week; 848,517 BTC total; $64.02B aggregate cost; $75,446 average cost; 140,872 MSTR shares sold for about $22.0M net; a $4.83B USD Reserve and $447.3M USD Cash. Two Oct 20 DEFA14A filings did not update BTC holdings.

ItemCurrent estimate
MSTR Oct 20 close, FMP$142.72
FMP market cap / outstanding shares$57.43B / 402.431M
Latest basic / ADSO422.353M / 451.933M

Gross BTC NAV/share at current BTC$155.57
Diluted market cap / gross BTC NAV0.92x
Estimated net common NAV/shareabout $121.42
Diluted market cap / estimated net common NAVabout 1.18x

ADSO is an assumed-diluted disclosure denominator, not GAAP weighted-average diluted shares. Net common NAV still uses framework estimates of roughly $6.75B debt, $13.96B preferred claims and $5.277B dollar assets. STRC repurchases, new financing, dividends and conversion can change senior claims, so 1.18x is not a precise liquidation value.

BTC-price scenario table

The table uses 848,517 BTC / 451.933M ADSO and applies 1.0x, 1.2x and 1.5x to gross BTC NAV/share. It explicitly ignores debt, preferred claims, dollar assets, software value, taxes and future dilution and must not be confused with net common NAV.

BTC price1.0x gross BTC NAV1.2x1.5x
$60,000$112.65$135.18$168.98
$80,000$150.20$180.24$225.30
$82,860$155.57$186.69$233.36
$100,000$187.75$225.30$281.63
$120,000$225.30$270.36$337.95

MSTR trades below gross BTC NAV/share but above estimated net common NAV after senior claims. “Below 1x gross BTC NAV” is not the same as buying bitcoin at a risk-free discount.
