Gold & silver daily report · 2026-11-05
A sharp rebound within a Bear regime; gold returns to low Fair while silver remains technically Cheap.
Gold and silver rebounded sharply during the November 4 U.S. session, but the completed daily series remain below both their 50-day and 200-day averages. All four assets therefore remain in a Bear regime. Gold spot and GLD have crossed back into the low end of the technical Fair zone; silver and SLV remain technically Cheap. Falling nominal yields help at the margin, but high real yields and a firm dollar remain restrictive; a negative NFCI provides a partial offset.
Cheap / Fair / Hot refers only to technical position versus the 200-day average (0.90x / 1.10x). It is not a claim about intrinsic value. Spot, futures and ETF observations remain separate.
1. Prices and spot-to-ETF mapping
| Asset | Latest observation | Timestamp, source and status |
|---|---|---|
| Gold spot | $4,138.20/oz | 2026-11-05 03:09:31 UTC, Gold API; Trading Economics same-day cross-check about $4,138.00 |
| Silver spot | $53.314/oz | 2026-11-05 03:09:30 UTC, Gold API; Trading Economics same-day cross-check about $53.082 |
| GLD | $372.49 | November 4 completed close, Yahoo; same value from FMP cross-check |
| SLV | $47.16 | November 4 completed close, Yahoo; same value from FMP cross-check |
Both spot cross-check differences are below 0.5%; no STALE_CRITICAL flag applies. Observed mapping factors are GLD ≈ gold spot × 0.09001 and SLV ≈ silver spot × 0.88457. These are timing-based scenario estimates, not frictionless conversions; fees, cash, premiums/discounts and market timing can create differences.
FMP's GCUSD $4,137.00 and SIUSD $53.155 observations around 2026-11-05 02:58 UTC are explicitly labelled futures and are used only as cross-checks, not as spot.
2. Regime, current zone and technical bands
| Asset | Current regime and zone | Cheap | Fair | Hot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold spot / GC reference | Bear; low Fair | <$4,058.38 | $4,058.38–$4,960.24 | >$4,960.24 |
| GLD | Bear; low Fair, close to Cheap boundary | <$370.78 | $370.78–$453.18 | >$453.18 |
| Silver spot / SI reference | Bear; technical Cheap | <$63.25 | $63.25–$77.30 | >$77.30 |
| SLV | Bear; technical Cheap | <$57.30 | $57.30–$70.04 | >$70.04 |
The strict regime rule is satisfied because completed closes are below SMA200, SMA50 is below SMA200, and SMA200 has fallen over roughly 20 sessions. The gold / GLD SMA200 decline is about 0.9%; silver / SLV about 3.2%–3.3%. There is no forced classification gap today, but gold spot and GLD sit only just beyond the Cheap boundary, so boundary uncertainty matters.
3. Price stage: gold and silver
Gold
- Yahoo
GC=Fcompleted at $4,073.00 on November 4; SMA50 $4,253.00, SMA200 $4,509.31. The incomplete November 5 bar is excluded. - The 52-week closing range is $3,898.90–$5,318.40. Current range position is about 12.3%, with a 23.4% drawdown from the 52-week high.
- RSI(14) is 42.8; five-day return +0.5%, 20-day return -1.6%. Repair is visible but does not establish an uptrend.
- Support: $4,073 / $4,000 / $3,898.90. Resistance: current spot $4,138–4,148, recent high $4,216.30, and SMA50 $4,253.
- Meaning: existing positions can be held with risk controls; new exposure should be staged. Sustained trade above $4,216–4,253 would justify more cyclical exposure; a break back below $4,000 argues for pausing additions.
Silver
- Yahoo
SI=Fcompleted at $52.120 on November 4; SMA50 $60.643, SMA200 $70.273. The incomplete November 5 bar is excluded. - The 52-week closing range is $47.13–$115.08. Current range position is about 7.3%, with a 54.7% drawdown from the high.
- RSI(14) is 35.2; five-day return -2.5%, 20-day return -13.0%. The bounce is real, but medium-term momentum remains weak.
- Support: $52.12 / $49.10 / $47.13. Resistance: $53.50, SMA50 $60.64, and the Fair-zone floor $63.25.
- Meaning: only small, controlled probes are justified. Holding $53.50 is a first step; reclaiming $60.64–63.25 would be a Bear-to-Transition candidate. Below $49.10, additions should slow.
4. Gold/silver ratio and relative value
The same-time spot ratio is about 77.6. The synchronized Yahoo GC=F / SI=F five-year distribution has a 10th percentile near 66.3, median 83.9, and 90th percentile near 90.8; the November 4 futures-close ratio was about 78.1.
Silver is therefore Fair relative to gold, somewhat expensive versus the implication of the five-year median. It is neither clearly relatively cheap nor at the prior 10th-percentile extreme of relative expensiveness. A move toward or above 84 would materially improve silver's relative-value case. Technical cheapness versus its own SMA200 and cheapness versus gold are distinct.
5. Macro: real yield, nominal yield, dollar and conditions
| Indicator | Latest observation | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| FRED DFII10 | 2.65%, November 3 | Still restrictive for non-yielding assets; slightly above the late-October 2.60% low |
| FRED DGS10 | 4.95%, November 3 | Nominal yields remain high |
Yahoo ^TNX | 4.894%, November 4 close | One-day fresher market cross-check; not a replacement for the FRED record |
Yahoo DX-Y.NYB | 101.51, November 4 close | Above SMA50 100.98 and SMA200 99.67; dollar remains firm |
| FRED NFCI | -0.459, October 30 | Negative means looser than historical average, although conditions have tightened gradually |
Overall macro is restrictive, easing at the margin. The short-term decline in nominal yields helps and NFCI offers a cushion, but a 2.65% real yield and a dollar above both medium- and long-term averages keep the trend-confirmation hurdle high.
6. ETF holdings and flow proxies
- GLD: SPDR's official archive shows 1,037.66 tonnes on November 3 → 1,040.51 tonnes on November 4, an increase of 2.85 tonnes. Two dated official observations support the holdings change, but it is not exact dollar cash flow; label:
HOLDINGS_PROXY. - SLV: the official iShares page shows 15,751.90 tonnes, 506.435Moz and 561.05M shares on November 3 → unchanged on November 4. Two dated observations support unchanged holdings and shares; this is still not labelled exact daily cash flow.
- Slow WGC context: as of September 30, global gold ETFs added about US$10bn / 67 tonnes in September, reaching roughly 4,256 tonnes; Q3 added about 211 tonnes. This is not GLD daily flow.
The rebound was accompanied by higher GLD physical holdings, a mild confirmation for gold. SLV had no same-day holdings follow-through, so silver's price rebound still needs confirmation.
7. Slow supply and demand
- Gold: the latest WGC quarterly detail used here is roughly 289 tonnes of Q2 2026 central-bank net buying and about 345 tonnes for H1. H1 was the lowest since 2022, but reserve diversification and stated buying interest continue to support the strategic case.
- Silver: World Silver Survey 2026 estimates industrial demand near 639.6Moz, photovoltaic demand 151.0Moz, and a 46.3Moz market deficit, the sixth consecutive annual deficit.
- Solar boundary: forecast 2026 PV silver use falls about 19% year over year. Thrifting, copper substitution and falling silver intensity prevent a linear translation from solar installations to silver prices.
These slow variables support the year-plus allocation case, but they do not override the current Bear regime or establish one uniquely measurable intrinsic value.
8. Spot-to-ETF scenario mapping
| Gold spot | Estimated GLD | Silver spot | Estimated SLV |
|---|---|---|---|
| $3,800 | $342.05 | $45 | $39.81 |
| $4,000 | $360.05 | $50 | $44.23 |
| $4,138.20 | $372.49 | $53.314 | $47.16 |
| $4,300 | $387.05 | $60 | $53.07 |
| $4,500 | $405.06 | $70 | $61.92 |
The table uses today's observed mapping factors. Actual ETF prices remain subject to fees, cash, tracking error, timing and premiums/discounts.
9. Three time horizons
- Tactical, weeks: both metals are in a rebound from depressed levels. Stage small purchases rather than chase a one-day move. Watch $4,138–4,148 and $4,216 for gold, and $53.50 for silver. Below $4,000 / $49.10, slow additions.
- Cyclical, months: gold above $4,253 and GLD above $386.88; silver above $60.64–63.25 and SLV above $54.83–57.30 would be Bear-to-Transition candidates.
- Strategic, year-plus: gold remains suitable as a core diversifier. Silver's industrial deficit offers more upside elasticity, but PV thrifting, substitution, cyclicality and volatility argue for a smaller controlled satellite allocation.
10. Action lines and data health
- Gold holding $4,148 and breaking $4,216 permits more tactical exposure; $4,253 is stronger medium-term repair. Below $4,000, pause additions; below $3,898.90, shift defensive.
- GLD: hold the technical Cheap boundary at $370.78; reclaim $386.88 for clearer cyclical repair; tighten risk near $355.78.
- Silver: holding $53.50 supports only a small probe; reclaim $60.64–63.25 before raising risk. Slow additions below $49.10; defend below $47.13.
- SLV: reclaim $54.83–57.30 for medium-term repair; tighten risk below $44.60.
- If DFII10 rises above 2.8%,
^TNXreturns above 5.1%, and DXY breaks 102.58, reduce the pace of new buying further.
Data health: FMP quote and commodity endpoints were available; commodity fields are futures-only cross-checks. Gold API and Trading Economics provide two same-day November 5 spot observations. Yahoo completed daily series end November 4; incomplete November 5 GC, SI and DXY bars were excluded. FRED DFII10 / DGS10 end November 3 and NFCI October 30. Official GLD and SLV holdings end November 4. Futures are not presented as spot, holdings changes are not exact cash flows, and technical cheapness is not intrinsic-value discount.
