Credit risk daily report · 2026-10-19

Report date (Beijing):

Four public indicators are below triggers; raw HY OAS redistribution limits keep the aggregate DATA_INCOMPLETE and on watch.

Beijing time: 2026-10-19 11:37 CST
Market data as of: completed US session on 2026-10-16; individual FRED dates are shown below
Overall level: DATA_INCOMPLETE (all-green cannot be confirmed)
Cash-bullet deploy trigger: watch

This report monitors five early signals of a possible US credit event or liquidity shock. It only supports review of a pre-planned staged cash framework, is not investment advice, and never executes trades.

HY OAS is the highest-weight signal and the framework's key one-to-three-month credit-event lead indicator. Because the public page may not redistribute its raw index value, it is not counted as green in the public aggregate and the report cannot claim five verified green indicators.

2. What changed / what matters

  • HY OAS first: its latest observation date is October 15 and is within normal publication cadence. The public page preserves thresholds and the source while withholding the raw value, so the aggregate remains DATA_INCOMPLETE.
  • KRE closed at $69.81, gained 1.16% over five sessions and traded at 1.01× prior-30-day average volume; neither price nor add-on conditions fired.
  • Yahoo's completed-session VIX close is 19.99 on October 16, below 25. The official FRED value is dated October 15, so the two are not treated as simultaneous observations.
  • None of the six banks combined a >5% one-day loss with >2× volume. WFC volume was 2.14×, but its price rose 1.35%, so the conjunctive trigger is false.
  • LQD returned +0.97% over five sessions versus SPY -1.97%, a +2.93-point spread, close to but strictly below the >3-point trigger.

3. Regional banks and volatility

KRE metrics come from one consistent Yahoo adjusted-close and volume series: 1D +0.09%, 5D +1.16%, latest volume 15.244M shares, prior-30-session mean 15.087M and volume ratio 1.01×. The series has 69 valid observations, nonzero denominators and no split event in the window. Yahoo's completed-session close of $69.81 differs by about 0.06% from Alpaca's delayed-SIP latest bar of $69.85, well below the 1% threshold-critical discrepancy rule.

VIX uses Yahoo ^VIX's completed October 16 session close of 19.99, which is green. FRED VIXCLS has a latest non-null observation dated October 15 and is retained as an official dated cross-check, not a same-day substitute. Because the dates differ, the numeric gap is not labeled a simultaneous quote conflict.

4. High-yield spread and inflation expectations

The ICE BofA US High Yield OAS / FRED ↗ series carries redistribution restrictions for its raw index data. This page publishes the source, latest observation date and thresholds, but not the raw value. A yellow HY OAS reading alone escalates the whole framework to red. The spread is an important lead signal, not a deterministic forecast of every credit event.

T10YIE is 2.35% on 2026-10-16, up 0.03 percentage point from 2.32% on October 15, and remains in the 2.20%–2.70% green interval. Above 2.70% is upper yellow and above 3.00% is red. Below 2.20% is recession-expectation yellow; below 2.00% remains a warning but must be labeled a recession/easing mix because Fed-cut optionality may support risk assets.

5. Large banks and cross-asset proxy

SecurityClose USD1D return5D returnLatest volume / prior-30 mean
JPM339.72+1.25%+2.02%1.04×
BAC51.23-0.91%-5.69%1.58×
WFC83.87+1.35%+0.38%2.14×
C124.26+0.85%-4.15%1.03×
GS881.26-1.12%-1.57%1.06×
MS180.57-0.84%-4.97%0.99×

Signal 1 is false: no bank combines a >5% one-day loss and >2× volume. Signal 2 is false: KBE gained 0.78% over five sessions rather than falling more than 10%. Signal 3 is false: LQD 5D +0.97% minus SPY 5D -1.97% equals +2.93 percentage points, strictly below the >3 condition. With zero active sub-signals, the proxy is green. It is a price-and-volume proxy, not an audit of bank solvency or asset quality.

6. Overall algorithm and deploy implication

Any deep-red indicator or at least three red indicators produces overall deep red. One or two red indicators, or at least three yellow with no red, produces red. One or two yellow produces yellow. Overall green requires all five indicators to be verified green. HY OAS yellow alone escalates the aggregate to red. Four public green readings plus DATA_WITHHELD do not satisfy the all-green condition, so the public overall remains DATA_INCOMPLETE.

Deploy implication: watch means prepare the watchlist and verify the key field; it does not trigger automatic trading. Green would mean no deploy trigger; yellow means prepare/watchlist only; red means begin the pre-planned staged cash-bullet review; deep red means review the crisis playbook.

7. Data health

Item by item: KRE, JPM, BAC, WFC, C, GS, MS, KBE, LQD and SPY use Yahoo query1 adjusted daily history (2026-10-16, primary, no fallback, not missing or stale; 69 valid observations and complete prior-30 volume denominators each). ^VIX uses Yahoo query1 (2026-10-16, primary, not missing or stale; volume not applicable). KRE and the nine required listed securities also have Alpaca delayed-SIP bars dated 2026-10-16 as quote cross-checks. BAMLH0A0HYM2 uses FRED (2026-10-15, not missing or stale, raw public value DATA_WITHHELD); T10YIE uses FRED (2026-10-16, not missing or stale); VIXCLS uses FRED (2026-10-15, official cross-check, not missing).

Blocked/fallback: FMP batch real-time quotes returned explicit ACCESS DENIED on the Starter plan, so no equivalent restricted endpoint was retried. The affected field is the independent FMP live-quote cross-check, not the Yahoo completed-session history. Yahoo query1 succeeded, so query2, FMP historical and Stooq were not called. Browser automation was not used. Returns were calculated locally from consecutive adjusted closes; latest volume uses the 30 preceding sessions as denominator. Every denominator is nonzero and no split anomaly appears in the window.
