Credit risk daily report · 2026-10-18
Four public indicators are below triggers, but the highest-weight HY OAS raw value is redistribution-restricted; overall is DATA_INCOMPLETE and the plan status is watch.
Beijing time: 2026-10-18 11:31 CST
Market data as of: completed US session on 2026-10-16; individual FRED dates are shown below
Overall level: DATA_INCOMPLETE (all-green cannot be confirmed)
Cash-bullet deploy trigger: watch
This report monitors five early signals of a possible US credit event or liquidity shock. It only supports review of a pre-planned staged cash framework, is not investment advice, and never executes trades.
1. Five-indicator dashboard
| Indicator | Latest value | Color/state | Trigger detail | Source/date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KRE regional-bank ETF | $69.81; 1D +0.09%; 5D +1.16%; volume 1.01× | Green | Above $60; neither the >8% five-day loss nor >2× volume add-on is active | FMP history fallback, 2026-10-16; Alpaca after-hours minute bar $69.85 cross-check |
| VIX fear index | 16.46 | Green | ≤25; the fresh Yahoo session quote was unavailable, so the official dated FRED observation is used | FRED VIXCLS, 2026-10-15 |
| HY OAS credit spread | Raw value withheld; source linked | DATA_WITHHELD | >5% yellow, >7% red, >10% deep red; yellow alone escalates overall to red | ICE BofA/FRED BAMLH0A0HYM2, latest observation 2026-10-15 |
| 10Y breakeven inflation | 2.35% | Green | Inside 2.20%–2.70%; below 2.00% remains a recession/easing-mix warning | FRED T10YIE, 2026-10-16 |
| Large-bank health proxy | 0 of 3 sub-signals | Green | Bank price/volume 0; KBE 5D +0.78%; LQD minus SPY 5D +2.93 points (trigger >3) | FMP history fallback, 2026-10-16 |
HY OAS is the highest-weight signal and the framework's key one-to-three-month credit-event lead indicator. Because the public page may not redistribute its raw index value, it is not counted as green in the public aggregate and the report cannot claim five verified green indicators.
2. What changed / what matters
- HY OAS first: its latest observation date is October 15 and is within normal publication cadence. The public page preserves thresholds and the source while withholding the raw value, so the aggregate remains DATA_INCOMPLETE.
- KRE closed at $69.81, gained 1.16% over five sessions and traded at 1.01× prior-30-day average volume; neither price nor add-on conditions fired.
- The official FRED VIX observation is 16.46 on October 15. It lags the completed equity session by one trading day and is not compared as if simultaneous with October 16 closes.
- None of the six banks combined a >5% one-day loss with >2× volume. WFC volume was 2.14×, but its price rose 1.35%, so the conjunctive trigger is false.
- LQD returned +0.97% over five sessions versus SPY -1.97%, a +2.93-point spread. It is close to, but still below, the strict >3-point trigger and merits observation next session.
3. Regional banks and volatility
KRE metrics come from one consistent dividend-adjusted close and volume series: 1D +0.09%, 5D +1.16%, latest volume 15.246M shares, prior-30-session mean 15.089M and volume ratio 1.01×. The series has 44 valid observations, nonzero denominators and no split event in the window. FMP's completed-session close of $69.81 differs by about 0.06% from the later Alpaca after-hours minute bar of $69.85, far below the 1% threshold-critical discrepancy rule.
The bounded Yahoo query1/query2 collection produced no parseable result within its execution window, so history fell back to FMP in the prescribed order. No same-day Yahoo VIX session quote was usable. FRED's October 15 official VIX observation is therefore the fallback; because its date differs from the October 16 equity close, no simultaneous discrepancy comparison is made.
4. High-yield spread and inflation expectations
The ICE BofA US High Yield OAS / FRED ↗ series carries redistribution restrictions for its raw index data. This page publishes the source, latest observation date and thresholds, but not the raw value. A yellow HY OAS reading alone escalates the whole framework to red. The spread is an important lead signal, not a deterministic forecast of every credit event.
T10YIE is 2.35% on 2026-10-16, up 0.03 percentage point from 2.32% on October 15, and remains in the 2.20%–2.70% green interval. Above 2.70% is upper yellow and above 3.00% is red. Below 2.20% is recession-expectation yellow; below 2.00% remains a warning but must be labeled a recession/easing mix because Fed-cut optionality may support risk assets.
5. Large banks and cross-asset proxy
| Security | Close USD | 1D return | 5D return | Latest volume / prior-30 mean |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| JPM | 339.72 | +1.25% | +2.02% | 1.04× |
| BAC | 51.23 | -0.91% | -5.69% | 1.58× |
| WFC | 83.87 | +1.35% | +0.38% | 2.14× |
| C | 124.26 | +0.85% | -4.15% | 1.03× |
| GS | 881.26 | -1.12% | -1.57% | 1.06× |
| MS | 180.57 | -0.84% | -4.97% | 0.99× |
Signal 1 is false: no bank combines a >5% one-day loss and >2× volume. Signal 2 is false: KBE gained 0.78% over five sessions rather than falling more than 10%. Signal 3 is false: LQD 5D +0.97% minus SPY 5D -1.97% equals +2.93 percentage points, strictly below the >3 condition. With zero active sub-signals, the proxy is green. It is a price-and-volume proxy, not an audit of bank solvency or asset quality.
6. Overall algorithm and deploy implication
Any deep-red indicator or at least three red indicators produces overall deep red. One or two red indicators, or at least three yellow with no red, produces red. One or two yellow produces yellow. Overall green requires all five indicators to be verified green. HY OAS yellow alone escalates the aggregate to red. Four public green readings plus DATA_WITHHELD do not satisfy the all-green condition, so the public overall remains DATA_INCOMPLETE.
Deploy implication: watch means prepare the watchlist and verify the key field; it does not trigger automatic trading. Green would mean no deploy trigger; yellow means prepare/watchlist only; red means begin the pre-planned staged cash-bullet review; deep red means review the crisis playbook.
7. Data health
Item-by-item: KRE, JPM, BAC, WFC, C, GS, MS, KBE, LQD and SPY use FMP dividend-adjusted daily-history fallback (2026-10-16, not missing, not stale; 44 valid observations each and complete prior-30 volume denominators). Those securities also have Alpaca delayed-SIP minute bars dated 2026-10-16 as quote cross-checks. ^VIX uses FRED VIXCLS (2026-10-15, fallback, not missing, one trading day behind the equity close). BAMLH0A0HYM2 uses FRED (2026-10-15, not stale, raw public value DATA_WITHHELD). T10YIE uses FRED (2026-10-16, not missing or stale). VIXCLS uses FRED (2026-10-15, not missing).
Blocked/fallback: FMP batch real-time quotes returned explicit ACCESS DENIED on the Starter plan, so no equivalent quote endpoint was retried. The bounded Yahoo query1/query2 daily-history collection returned no parseable output within its execution window, so history fell back to FMP. Stooq and browser automation were not used. No project code, trade or personal-account data was changed. Returns were calculated locally from consecutive adjusted closes; the volume denominator is the 30 sessions preceding the latest observation.
8. Sources and limits
Sources: FMP ↗, Alpaca Market Data ↗, FRED HY OAS ↗, FRED T10YIE ↗, and FRED VIXCLS ↗. Series with different observation dates are not treated as simultaneous. Market proxies cannot replace funding-market, balance-sheet or issuer-level verification.
