US Semiconductor Industry Association: Q3 Global Chip Sales Reach $517.7 Billion, Up 24.1% Quarter-over-Quarter
US Semiconductor Industry Association data shows global chip sales grew over 20% quarter-over-quarter for a third consecutive quarter, with September surging 146.8% year-on-year on AI demand.
The US Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced on November 3, 2026 (US time), that global semiconductor sales reached $517.7 billion in the third quarter of 2026 (July–September), representing a 24.1% increase from the previous quarter. This marks the third consecutive quarter of over 20% quarter-over-quarter growth, highlighting the robust expansion driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure investment.
In September alone, global semiconductor sales totaled $172.6 billion, up 146.8% year-on-year and 7.9% month-over-month. This monthly figure has now posted positive month-over-month growth for 19 consecutive months. Michael Robbins, President and CEO of SIA, stated that semiconductor sales in all major regions showed strong year-on-year growth, underscoring the industry's critical role in supporting innovation, productivity, and economic competitiveness.
Regionally, the Americas saw the most rapid expansion, with September sales rising 191.7% year-on-year. The Asia Pacific/Other region grew 141.4%, China grew 124.9%, Europe grew 102.5%, and Japan grew 73.4%. While all regions recorded significant gains, Japan's growth rate lagged behind the global average, suggesting its share of the world market will continue to dilute.
World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) calculations released in August indicated that achieving the projected full-year 2026 total of $1.655 trillion would require Q4 sales to drop approximately 16% compared to Q3. However, given the current accelerating monthly momentum, this static calculation may no longer reflect actual market dynamics. If Q4 sales match Q3 levels, the annual total would exceed $1.73 trillion, significantly surpassing previous forecast baselines.
