UK Retailer ASOS Reports £1M Annual Savings and Pilot Conversion Gains from Agentic AI
ASOS CEO discloses that agentic AI saves approximately £1 million annually in invoice matching and over 800 hours weekly in other workflows, while its 'AI Stylist' pilot shows 50% of conversations converting to purchases.
José Antonio Ramos Calamonte, CEO of UK online fashion retailer ASOS, recently stated that the company is significantly reducing operating costs and improving customer experience through the deployment of agentic AI. According to a report by diginomica, Calamonte noted that automating invoice matching alone saves the firm approximately £1 million per year. Additionally, agents managing purchase orders save 500 hours per week, while those handling third-party brand catalog information save another 300 hours, totaling over 800 hours saved weekly.
On the consumer side, ASOS launched an 'AI Stylist' feature in a pilot program covering about 50% of its UK iOS users. Calamonte reported that within just a few weeks, there were more than 100,000 conversations, with over 50,000 of these resulting in relevant engagement and purchasing. He believes this personalized interaction model will shift the shopping experience from purely transactional to inspirational, particularly appealing to consumers who like fashion but are not true fashionistas.
While these specific figures demonstrate the tangible value of agentic AI in retail operations, they are self-reported by the company and have not been independently audited or verified. ASOS is also working with Microsoft on a project called 'Fashion Frontier' aimed at further simplifying product creation processes and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
