On October 30, 2026, members of the UK's Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF) published a joint statement titled "Protecting People and Businesses in an Agentic AI Economy." The DRCF comprises the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and Ofcom, designed to coordinate these regulators' responses to common challenges in digital markets.

The statement notes that as the use of personal AI agents grows, regulators will continue to collaborate and work with the government to ensure that existing legal and regulatory frameworks apply to these new types of autonomous systems. Previously, the CMA had published research analyzing how agentic AI could affect consumers' lives and what businesses should do to mitigate risks.

This statement does not introduce new legislative obligations but reaffirms the applicability of current laws in agentic AI scenarios and clarifies the division of labor and coordination mechanisms among the four major regulators. For companies deploying consumer-facing agentic AI products in the UK market, this provides clearer compliance expectations and channels for regulatory communication.
