U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has announced a collaboration with car rental platform Turo to promote its advanced driver-assistance system, Full Self-Driving (Supervised), commonly known as FSD. According to TechCrunch, Turo will begin identifying which Teslas on its marketplace are equipped with FSD, and eligible Turo hosts will receive a free one-month trial of the software.

Turo stated that it is working directly with Tesla to access the automaker’s API to verify which cars have FSD enabled. This move follows recent data disclosures by Tesla: last week, the company revealed that approximately 1.7 million customers globally have paid for FSD out of more than 10 million cars sold to date. However, in North America, over 75% of customers who took delivery of a car in the third quarter paid for an FSD subscription, representing a roughly 20% increase from the second quarter.

For Turo, offering FSD-enabled rentals provides an opportunity to boost interest in some of its most popular vehicles, such as the Model 3 and Model Y. Turo CEO Andre Haddad said in a statement that most travelers have had limited opportunities to experience driver-assistance technology, and this integration aims to close the gap between consumer curiosity and hands-on access. Customers renting an FSD-enabled Tesla through Turo will be presented with cautionary language requiring them to monitor the software and be ready to take over at any moment.
