US server maker Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) disclosed preliminary financial projections on October 21, 2026, indicating that demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure has exceeded expectations. The company forecasts first-quarter revenue between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion, a substantial increase from its previous guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion. Gross margin expectations were also revised upward to 12%–12.5%, compared to the prior range of 10.4%–10.8%. Following this news, SMCI shares rose 11% to close at $36.03.

Wedbush Securities analysts noted that these strong preliminary results reflect accelerating AI hardware demand and improved profitability driven by a better product mix. At the midpoint, the new revenue guidance is approximately 27% higher than the previous forecast, with estimated gross profit rising about 19% quarter-over-quarter to roughly $2.3 billion. However, despite the improvement, margins remain below the 17.6% recorded in the fourth quarter, leaving questions about whether this reflects sustainable pricing power or temporary factors.

Beyond demand-side positives, analysts highlighted potential funding pressures. Super Micro's cash conversion cycle stood at 149 days in the previous quarter, with only about $62 million remaining available under its bank credit lines. If sales expansion fails to shorten the cash collection period, the company may face additional financing needs. Wedbush also questioned whether the firm would need to further raise its full-year revenue guidance of $65 billion to $72 billion. Investors await the official earnings report on November 3 to confirm order backlog details, delivery timelines for Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems, and the specific contribution from customers like SpaceX.
