Sequoia Capital Announces Restructuring: Raises ~$10B, Closes London Office and Arc Accelerator
Sequoia Capital released a memo announcing the end of its 20-year expansion phase, closing its London office, and shutting down Arc and Scouts to refocus on Silicon Valley.
US-based venture capital firm Sequoia Capital announced a major strategic restructuring in a memo titled "The Sequoia of Tomorrow" on November 4, 2026. The firm stated it has raised approximately $10 billion in new funds while simultaneously closing its London office, shutting down its Arc accelerator and Scouts program, and merging its early-stage and growth investment teams into a single unit.
These moves aim to reverse a roughly 20-year expansionary phase. Sequoia noted in the memo that its previous global footprint led to unintended hierarchical structures. The firm is now returning to a smaller team size and narrower geographic focus, primarily centered in Silicon Valley. The closure of the London office will result in several departures, including Luciana Lixandru, the first partner hired for Europe from Accel, who chose to remain in Europe and invest personally.
The terminated Scouts program allowed external individuals to write small checks on behalf of Sequoia to discover early-stage deals, while the Arc accelerator provided batch support for pre-seed and seed founders. Sequoia stated these changes are intended to put more energy behind fewer people and things, improving support for backed founders. The firm is now managed by seven General Partners, including Alfred Lin and Pat Grady.
