Qatar Investment Authority Reaffirms $500 Billion US Investment Target, Doubles New York Staff
QIA CEO confirms commitment to invest $500 billion in the US over the next decade and expands New York team to accelerate deployment.
Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi, CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), stated at the CNN Global Perspectives conference that the fund remains committed to investing $500 billion in the United States over the next decade. He noted this target should be achievable even if the fund needs to draw on reserves to support Qatar's domestic economy.
Al-Sowaidi cited the attractiveness of the US economy, which accounts for 25% of global GDP and 60% of tradable financial assets, as the primary driver for increased allocations. To prepare for this deployment, QIA is doubling its New York team to approximately 45 people.
The CEO's mandate upon appointment included preparing QIA to invest windfalls expected from Qatar's liquefied natural gas expansion. This latest statement clarifies the long-term strategic direction of one of the region's largest sovereign wealth funds.
