US artificial intelligence company OpenAI Group PBC has reportedly raised $11 billion in a funding round that values the company at $1.25 trillion, according to sources cited by Bloomberg. The sources stated that investors wired the funds to the company on Thursday.

This capital infusion is part of a larger fundraising effort that could nearly double in size over the coming weeks. Potential participants include Microsoft Corp., which contributed to at least four of OpenAI’s previous rounds, including its most recent $122 billion raise in March.

The latest funding comes as OpenAI plans to go public in 2027, aiming to finance its steep infrastructure expenses until the listing. In July, The Information reported that the ChatGPT developer has more than $665 billion worth of chip and data center commitments.

By comparison, competitor Anthropic PBC is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) with a target valuation of $1.5 trillion, though several investors reportedly consider this goal unrealistic and have suggested a valuation closer to $1 trillion.
