OpenAI Offers Up to $500 Monthly API Credits for ChatGPT Pro and Business Subscribers
OpenAI launches a new benefit allowing Pro and Business users to claim up to $500 in monthly API credits for app development, requiring manual activation and offering no rollover.
OpenAI announced on October 28, 2026, that eligible ChatGPT Pro and Business plan subscribers can now claim up to $500 per month in API credits. These credits are intended for building applications and agents, covering costs for text processing, agent execution, voice conversations, and image generation APIs.
The amount varies by tier: Pro plans receive credits matching their monthly fee ($100 to $500), while Business plans accrue $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, capped at $500 per workspace. Annual Business subscribers receive up to $6,000 upfront.
This initiative lowers the cost barrier for developers already paying for subscriptions. The API credits are separate from ChatGPT chat usage limits but cannot be used for Codex via API keys, nor do they increase usage caps for ChatGPT or logged-in Codex. Unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle and do not roll over.
Subscribers must manually activate the benefit in their billing settings, and paid contracts must be active for at least seven days. Plus plans and free trials are excluded. This move signals OpenAI's strategy to deepen integration within its subscription ecosystem and encourage platform-specific development.
