OpenAI Announces 'Sign in with ChatGPT' Feature Allowing Paid Users to Share Subscription Usage with Third-Party Apps

OpenAI introduces a mechanism letting ChatGPT Plus/Pro users apply their subscription quota to supported apps, reducing developer costs and enhancing subscription value.

At the 'OpenAI DevDay Exchange: Seoul' event held on October 22, 2026, Albert Yip, Head of Technical Success at OpenAI Asia-Pacific, announced a new mechanism allowing paid ChatGPT users to share their included AI usage limits with third-party applications. This feature is called 'Sign in with ChatGPT'.

Previously, developers integrating OpenAI models into their apps had to bear the API costs incurred by each user call. Under the new system, when users log in via their ChatGPT account in a supported app and agree to share usage, the AI consumption within that app is deducted directly from their existing ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription quota. This means developers do not need to pay extra inference costs for trial users, while users can make fuller use of their purchased subscription services.

OpenAI stated that the first batch of partners supporting this feature includes 16 companies such as AI coding tool Devin, collaboration platform Notion, and web development platform Vercel. It is important to note that usage in external apps is not unlimited but shares the same limit as the main subscription. Additionally, account login and usage sharing are two separate authorization steps to protect user privacy and control. Currently, the feature is primarily targeted at open-source tools and personal projects; commercial applications must apply and undergo review to integrate.
