OpenAI Announces Bringing Its Models to Google Cloud, Completing Presence on All Three Major US Clouds
OpenAI will integrate its GPT products into Google Cloud within weeks, expanding beyond its historical Microsoft dependency and intensifying competition among major cloud providers for AI workloads.
OpenAI announced on October 21, 2026, that its artificial intelligence models will be made available to developers through Google Cloud. This move marks OpenAI's entry into the last of the three major US cloud platforms, ending years of deep ties with Microsoft.
According to CNBC, OpenAI's GPT series products will be integrated into Google Cloud's model garden and its Antigravity coding tool in the coming weeks. In a blog post, OpenAI stated that Google Cloud's longstanding investment in machine learning and AI has made it a destination for AI workloads.
This expansion comes less than six months after OpenAI ended its exclusive licensing agreement with Microsoft. Amazon Web Services (AWS) began hosting OpenAI models in April. With Google Cloud now joining, enterprise developers can choose between Azure, AWS, and GCP for deploying OpenAI models.
The shift directly impacts the competitive landscape of cloud infrastructure. Google Cloud's annualized revenue growth accelerated to about 82% in the second quarter, partly driven by demand for AI models, while Amazon and Microsoft posted cloud growth of 37% and 42%, respectively. OpenAI's multi-cloud strategy is likely to further intensify the rivalry among these giants for AI compute and services.
