OpenAI officially launched GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, 2026. The model is positioned as a fast, efficient tool for computer use and visual reasoning, designed to handle everyday work tasks such as drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, filling out forms, and editing videos.

In terms of cost, the standard API pricing for GPT-6.1 Terra is $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens. OpenAI states this price is 50% lower than that of GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, making it practical for developers to automate high-volume work like reading invoices and entering details into accounting software.

According to internal benchmark results published by OpenAI, GPT-6.1 Terra performs strongly on the "Agents’ Last Exam" professional task benchmark. At medium reasoning effort, it scores 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third the cost. At maximum effort, it is over three times as token-efficient as Claude Opus 5.5, resulting in approximately 9x lower cost per task.

On factuality and coding, OpenAI reports that the error rate on its internal benchmark of error-inducing prompts fell from 53.6% with GPT-5.6 Terra to 16.7% with GPT-6.1 Terra at low reasoning effort. On Terminal-Bench 4.0 command-line coding tasks, it solves 50.3% of tasks at maximum reasoning effort, more than double GPT-5.6 Terra’s published score of 21.5%.

It should be noted that all performance comparisons and metrics mentioned above are based on OpenAI's official announcements and internal tests, and have not yet been independently verified or reproduced by third parties. The model is now available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and via the OpenAI API as .
