US technology company Meta released its third-quarter earnings report on October 21, 2026, announcing an upward revision to its full-year 2026 capital expenditure (Capex) guidance from the previous range of $130 billion to $145 billion to $135 billion to $145 billion. This adjustment reflects continued high-intensity investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Following this news and strong performance indicators for its new AI product, Meta's stock rose more than 3% in after-hours trading.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the launch of "Muse," a new personal AI agent application, during the earnings call. According to Zuckerberg, since its September launch in the US and Canada, Muse has attracted over 10 million users who have set up agents. He specifically noted that shopping is currently the most common use case: more than a quarter of active users make purchases through the app, with an average order value exceeding $200.

Addressing the high cost of compute, Zuckerberg stated that running Muse remains expensive but projected that computational cost efficiency would improve by more than tenfold over the next year through technical optimizations. CFO Susan Li added that beyond shopping, users frequently utilize Muse to connect emails and calendars for personal productivity. Meta plans to monetize Muse through transaction fees charged to merchants and paid subscription services, expecting to integrate the feature into Meta smart glasses next month.
