Investment firm Loop Capital downgraded Apple Inc.'s stock rating from 'Buy' to 'Hold' on October 20, 2026, and cut its price target from $370 to $330. The move caused Apple shares to fall approximately 1.08% in premarket trading on Tuesday.

Loop Capital analysts noted that the previous expectation of Apple offsetting lower shipment volumes with higher prices may no longer hold. Recent data indicates a decline in consumer willingness to upgrade iPhones. A survey by KeyBanc revealed that while initial interest in the iPhone 18 was high, the proportion of consumers planning to replace their devices over the next year has decreased. Analyst Brandon Nispel suggested that as prices rise and existing phones continue to meet needs, users are less inclined to upgrade.

Supply chain cost pressures were another key factor in the downgrade. Loop Capital warned that rising memory and component costs could squeeze Apple's gross margins. Although a shift toward premium models helps maintain average selling prices (ASP), the risk to profitability increases amid slowing unit growth.

Beyond hardware, regulatory environments add uncertainty. Britain's competition regulator is seeking to loosen Apple's control over contactless payments, potentially impacting service revenue potential. Additionally, the broader tech sector faces headwinds from higher financing costs and skepticism about AI spending sustainability, further limiting upside for Apple's stock.
