According to a report by 404 Media, republished by iThome Taiwan, global IT outsourcing giant Accenture has announced a new internal cost-sharing policy. Starting October 1, 2026, the company reduced the centrally funded quota for employees using Anthropic's Claude Enterprise to $29 per person per month. Previously, without strict limits, some engineers heavily using AI for internal tool development or client projects incurred actual monthly costs ranging from $500 to $1,000.
The new policy mandates that any expenses exceeding the $29 base quota must be covered by employees drawing from specific project or team budgets (known as Work Breakdown Structure, WBS). The report notes that this change has led to complaints about impacts on project progress, with some employees having their access suspended due to overuse. With approximately 814,000 employees globally, Accenture's move is seen as a typical financial control measure by large service enterprises responding to soaring AI inference costs.
This is not an isolated incident. Recently, tech companies such as Microsoft, Meta, and Atlassian have also taken measures to limit employee AI spending or guide users toward internal tools, indicating a shift in the industry from 'encouraging adoption' to 'fine-grained cost control.'
