Indian gaming startup Matiks announced on Monday that it has raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding. The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Indian entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures. This brings the company's total funding to over $13.5 million.

Founded two years ago, Matiks focuses on math, logic, and memory puzzle games. The company reported that its daily active users grew from 22,000 earlier this year to over 300,000 by September, with monthly active users reaching 2.2 million in that month. Co-founder Sudhanshu Bhatia stated that the platform aims to offer competitive, sports-like entertainment as an alternative to the increasing volume of AI-generated content on social media timelines.

While positioning itself against "AI slop," Matiks is not rejecting AI entirely. The company has launched Jelo, an experimental game creation platform that allows users to build their own games using AI tools and share them with others. This space faces significant competition, including Google's recently introduced Playground platform.

Matiks plans to use the new funding to scale the Jelo platform and implement localization strategies to grow its presence in markets such as the United States, South Korea, and Japan. Currently, the majority of its user base remains in India.
