Google Cloud Previews Multi-Party Compute Crypto Custody Service, Commercial Launch Set for Early 2027

Google Cloud has unveiled a private preview of its Multi-Party Compute (MPC) service for institutional crypto custody, splitting private keys across environments to eliminate single points of failure, with commercial availability planned for early 2027.

Google Cloud previewed its "Google Multi-Party Compute" (MPC) digital asset security and custody service at its first MPC Symposium in New York on October 28, 2026. The service is currently in private preview, with commercial availability planned for early 2027.

The service uses multi-party computation technology to split cryptocurrency private keys into fragments distributed across separate environments—such as one share on a bank's own hardware, another in Google Cloud, and a third with a different provider—ensuring no single machine holds the complete key. Google states that it cannot access these shares in unencrypted form even when they reside on its infrastructure, eliminating the single point of failure that has led to large-scale losses in the crypto sector.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, is already using this technology to secure its own assets on Ethereum and Solana. Rich Widmann, Director of Digital Assets Strategy at Google Cloud, noted that as regulated financial institutions begin adopting blockchains and tokenization, they require scalable, proven infrastructure to secure their clients' assets. Representatives from Morgan Stanley, OKX, Citi, and Wells Fargo were among the speakers at the symposium.
