Google Releases Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash: Adds Conversational Video Editing, Cuts API Prices by 30%
Google launches an updated video generation model that allows local edits via natural language commands and reduces API costs by 30%, aiming to streamline AI video production.
US tech giant Google released the latest version of its video generation AI model, "Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash," on November 6. Developed by Google's AI lab DeepMind, the key improvement is the introduction of "conversational editing," which allows users to modify specific parts of a generated clip using natural language instructions (such as "replace the background" or "adjust lighting") without needing to regenerate the entire video.
The update extends the maximum duration of a single generated video from 10 seconds to 15 seconds and lowers usage costs. The fee for generating 720p resolution video via the Gemini API has dropped to $0.07 per second, a 30% decrease from the previous version, Omni 1.1. Google recommends a workflow of "low-resolution draft + local fine-tuning + high-resolution export" to further control expenses.
Despite these enhancements, Google noted current limitations: simulations of intense motion, rapid scene cuts, and complex physical phenomena are still under development. Additionally, on the consumer-facing Gemini app, the 15-second video generation feature is currently available only to subscribers of the top-tier "Ultra" plan. All generated videos embed an invisible SynthID digital watermark to identify AI-generated content.
