Ex-OpenAI Exec's Arda Raises $230M at $1.5B Valuation for Manufacturing AI
CNBC reports that Arda, founded by former OpenAI research head Bob McGrew, has raised $230 million at a $1.5 billion valuation to accelerate manufacturing automation with AI.
According to a CNBC report on October 20, 2026, Arda, an AI company founded by former OpenAI research head Bob McGrew, has completed a $230 million funding round at a valuation of $1.5 billion. The round was led by Altimeter Capital, with participation from Accel and Khosla Ventures. It should be noted that this financing information comes from a CNBC exclusive interview with Arda, rather than an official corporate announcement.
Arda's core product is AI software designed for manufacturing engineers, aiming to solve the pain point in traditional manufacturing where design changes lead to delays in automating production lines. McGrew likens the product to Cursor for manufacturing: just as programmers use Cursor to quickly generate code, manufacturing engineers can use Arda to faster build and adjust automated production lines, turning new product designs into operational processes.
Altimeter partner Apoorv Agrawal views the global manufacturing market as worth approximately $16 trillion, with the U.S. accounting for about $3 trillion. Against the backdrop of the Trump administration's push for manufacturing reshoring, Arda aims to shorten production line debugging cycles through AI, enabling the U.S. to compete in scenarios requiring frequent iteration. McGrew revealed that robotic operations are the next step in Arda's product roadmap.
