EU Unveils Five 6G Research Projects with Taiwan and India to Advance AI-RAN
The EU announced five new 6G research projects involving cooperation with Taiwan and India, focusing on AI-RAN with $25 million in funding from SNS JU.
According to SDx Central, the European Union unveiled five new 6G research projects at the Tech Territory conference held in Latvia on October 20-21. The initiative establishes global partnerships with Taiwan and India, aiming to build a 6G experimental platform across six EU member states and set up a coordination hub between the EU and India.
The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), an EU-funded public-private partnership body, will provide $25 million (approximately 3.3 billion KRW) in support for these projects.
The program drafts include HEMES-6G, which features a plan centered on Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) cooperation with Taiwan. AI-RAN integrates AI computing directly into base station hardware and is considered a key architectural element of future 6G networks. These projects also serve as successors to the Hexa-X-II project, which concluded last year.
Elzbieta Pitory, Executive Director of SNS JU, stated: "As AI and 6G technologies mature, we are placing significant emphasis on large-scale demonstrations. Through these projects, we aim to pave the path from laboratory to market."
