According to publicly available EU merger registry data, Apple acquired part of the assets of Swiss artificial intelligence audio startup Samplab in June through an unnamed subsidiary, offering jobs to some of its employees. The transaction only came to light on October 19 following an update to the EU database, and the deal value was not disclosed.

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Zurich, Samplab specializes in using AI to assist with music production and audio editing. Its core product is a plugin for Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) that converts complex recorded audio into editable MIDI notes, allowing users to modify individual notes, identify and edit chords, and perform more granular stem separation. The tool previously worked alongside mainstream software like Logic Pro.

Industry observers widely believe the acquisition is closely linked to Apple's efforts to enhance its professional music creation software, Logic Pro. Since 2024, Logic Pro has featured basic AI stem separation capabilities; integrating Samplab's technology could enable creators to adjust single notes directly during recording or handle complex samples with greater precision, thereby significantly improving music production efficiency.

Following the completion of the transaction, Samplab has gradually ceased independent operations. Its official website now redirects to Apple pages, and related service interfaces and social media accounts have been closed or cleared, indicating that its technology and team have been absorbed by Apple to strengthen the competitiveness of its creative software ecosystem.
