Digital Infrastructure Firm Equinix Opens SG6 Data Center in Singapore, Investing ~$290 Million for AI Capacity
Equinix has opened its sixth Singapore data center, SG6, with an initial $290 million investment providing 8 MW of liquid-cooled capacity to meet growing AI demand in Asia-Pacific.
Global digital infrastructure company Equinix (Nasdaq: EQIX) announced on November 6, 2026, that its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Singapore, SG6, is now open. Designed to support artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and data-intensive workloads, SG6 expands Equinix's global network of more than 280 data centers.
According to the official announcement, SG6 involves an initial investment of approximately $290 million, providing 8 megawatts (MW) of IT capacity in its first phase with about 1,550 cabinets. Upon full build-out, the facility will offer up to 20 MW of IT capacity. This expansion addresses the rising demand for high-power-density GPU infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region, with SG6 featuring proprietary cooling systems and liquid-cooling capabilities.
In terms of sustainability, SG6 is among the first data centers developed under Singapore's Data Centre Call for Application framework. It is designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.20 and targets Green Mark Platinum certification. The facility incorporates rooftop and facade solar photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting, and lower-embodied-carbon construction materials. Equinix's Singapore data centers have maintained 100% renewable energy coverage since 2020, aligning with the company's commitment to 100% renewable energy across retail IBXs by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2040.
Adaire Fox-Martin, CEO and President of Equinix, stated that Singapore sits at the intersection of global commerce, digital technology, and sustainable development, noting that the company's nearly 25-year investment history there reflects its central role in the digital economy. Additionally, Equinix plans to open a Co-Innovation Facility (CIF) at SG6 in partnership with the National University of Singapore in 2027, focusing on technologies such as liquid cooling, cognitive digital twins, and battery energy storage systems to improve data center efficiency.
