Cybersecurity firm Palo Alto Networks in talks to buy AI agent security startup Clutch for $500M
TechCrunch reports PANW is negotiating to acquire Clutch at roughly 50x ARR, highlighting soaring valuations in the AI security M&A market.
According to TechCrunch, US cybersecurity giant Palo Alto Networks is in talks to acquire Clutch Security, a three-year-old startup that secures AI agents' access to company systems. The proposed transaction is valued at approximately $500 million in cash plus additional milestone-based payouts, according to a person familiar with the discussions. Neither company responded to a request for comment.
If completed, the price would value Clutch at about 50 times its annual recurring revenue (ARR). The startup is currently approaching $10 million in ARR, having last been valued at $85 million during a Series A round in January 2025. This high valuation reflects a broader trend: Upwind, another AI security startup, recently turned down an acquisition offer from DataDog that valued it at roughly 40 times ARR.
This would be Palo Alto Networks' seventh acquisition this year as it ramps up dealmaking to address rising AI-driven cyberattacks. The company has already acquired Console, Embrace, Chronosphere, and Koi in 2026. In the competitive landscape, Cyera acquired Oasis Security for $1 billion, and Cisco bought Astrix for roughly $400 million.
