ByteDance's Doubao Work Upgrades: Adds Desktop Operation Recording and Background Task Execution on Locked Macs
Doubao Work now allows users to record desktop operations as reusable skills and supports executing tasks in the background even when the Mac screen is locked, enabling remote command via mobile.
According to Leifeng Wang, ByteDance's AI assistant "Doubao Work" has recently upgraded its computer operation capabilities. The update introduces two main features: allowing users to record desktop operations as reusable personal skills, and supporting the continued execution of computer-operating tasks even when the Mac screen is locked.
For skill recording, after selecting "Record Operations to Generate Skill" in the chat interface and completing authorization, users can operate their computer as usual while adding voice instructions for specific requirements (such as file naming rules). The system records mouse clicks, text input, and window content, organizing the workflow into a skill. Next time a similar task is needed, users can simply invoke the skill and specify the new target, eliminating the need to re-explain steps.
Regarding task execution, enabling the "Allow Doubao to Work When Screen is Locked" setting permits Doubao Work to continue running while the Mac is locked. Users can issue commands to the locked Mac via their phone and view results remotely. This requires the Mac to remain powered on, connected to the internet, and with the client running. This feature aims to help users delegate repetitive operations to AI, freeing up time for judgment and creative work.
