Apple Confirms China Launch Timeline for Apple Intelligence: Beta in Nov, Release with iOS 27.3 in Dec

Apple's China website released a newsroom statement confirming that Apple Intelligence will enter developer beta testing on November 4 and roll out to mainland Chinese users with iOS 27.3 in December. Initial features include real-time translation and writing tools, with Alibaba's Qwen providing extended capabilities, but excluding the next-generation Siri AI.

On October 31, Apple's China Newsroom published a statement titled "Apple Intelligence Coming to China," providing a definitive timeline: the first batch of Apple Intelligence features will be available for testing via the latest iOS Developer Beta starting November 4, and will officially roll out to users in mainland China when iOS 27.3 is released in December. This marks the end of a two-and-a-half-year wait since the feature's debut at WWDC in June 2024.

According to Apple, the initial core features focus on communication and creative efficiency. Real-time translation is a highlight, supporting automatic text translation in Messages, translated subtitles in FaceTime calls, and voice translation in Phone calls (limited to one-on-one). Additionally, paired with AirPods 4, AirPods 5, AirPods Pro 2 or later, and AirPods Max 2, it can translate face-to-face conversations. Writing Tools offer rewriting, proofreading, and summarization capabilities. The Mail app can prioritize urgent emails and generate summaries, while lock screen notifications will be condensed into summaries to reduce distractions. The Photos app includes a "Clean Up" tool (beta), natural language search for video clips, and memory movie generation. Genmoji allows creating new emojis via text descriptions, and Visual Intelligence can identify objects in front of the camera or answer questions about on-screen content.

Regarding model partnerships, Apple clarified the division of labor: the underlying engine runs on "generative models built by Apple," while Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen (Qwen) serves as an optional integrated extension appearing in three entry points: Siri, Writing Tools, and Visual Intelligence. For instance, queries Siri cannot handle can be routed to Qwen, and the "Compose" function in Writing Tools is driven by Qwen. This mirrors the integration position of ChatGPT on overseas iPhones in late 2024. Baidu AI, previously rumored, was not mentioned in this official announcement.

Notably, this update does not include the highly anticipated next-generation Siri AI or other advanced features announced by Apple at WWDC 2026. This means Siri AI, which offers cross-app operations and deep personal data retrieval, is temporarily absent from the China version. Furthermore, initial support is limited to iPhone 15 Pro and later models (including iPhone 16/17/Air/18 Pro/Duo series); iPad, Mac, and other platforms will require necessary approvals before rollout. In terms of privacy architecture, the China page currently emphasizes only "on-device processing technology" without detailing the global version's "Private Cloud Compute," indicating that information about cloud request handlers has not yet been fully disclosed.
