AMD Releases FSR SDK 2.4: Extends ML Upscaling to RX 6000 Series and Ryzen APUs

AMD's latest SDK enables neural-network-based image enhancement on older dedicated GPUs and integrated graphics, while adding full Vulkan support.

AMD released the “Redstone” FSR SDK 2.4 on October 28, 2026, officially extending its machine-learning-based FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 technology to a broader range of hardware. Previously, this AI-driven super-resolution feature was limited to newer Radeon RX 7000 and 9000 series discrete GPUs. The update brings it to Radeon RX 6000 series cards based on the RDNA 2 architecture for the first time, as well as to select AMD Ryzen processors with integrated Radeon graphics.

For integrated graphics users, AMD offers two model variants: Ryzen AI Max 300/400 series processors can run the full INT8 model, while lighter-weight laptops and handhelds equipped with Ryzen AI 9 300/400 or Z2 series chips use an optimized INT8 model less than half the size of the full version. This tiered approach aims to balance image reconstruction quality with performance constraints inherent in systems sharing system memory.

Beyond hardware compatibility, FSR SDK 2.4 significantly expands API support. It is the first “Redstone” release to achieve feature parity between Vulkan and DirectX 12 for both FSR Upscaling and FSR Frame Generation effects. This allows developers to integrate these AI graphics features uniformly across cross-platform titles without maintaining separate code paths for different graphics APIs.

Additionally, for the latest Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs, the SDK introduces Driver-Assisted Frame Pacing. By delegating presentation scheduling to the display driver rather than relying on user-mode busy waits, this technique delivers smoother frame delivery and lower CPU overhead under specific conditions. All new features are provided via SDK DLLs and do not require a specific driver version, though game developers must actively integrate them to utilize the latest capabilities.
