AI Lab HUMXN Plans Free Home Repairs in US Cities to Record Tradespeople for Robot Training

HUMXN plans to subsidize home services like plumbing and electrical work in exchange for permission to record technicians' workflows inside homes, aiming to gather real-world physical interaction data for training AI robots.

According to IT Home, HUMXN, an AI lab focused on collecting real-world data, plans to partner with homeowners to record the working processes of skilled tradespeople for training AI robots. The company stated it will subsidize plumbing, electrical, HVAC, duct cleaning, and carpet cleaning services: residents in need can receive these services for free in exchange for allowing personnel wearing "wearable capture devices" into their homes to conduct recordings.

HUMXN founder Thomas Unise said that next-generation AI needs to understand how professionals interact with the physical world, yet the highly technical tasks performed daily by home service technicians rarely exist in standardized data formats directly usable for learning by AI systems. The lab noted that it is difficult to capture natural movements of technicians in a laboratory environment. By partnering with homeowners, they can collect data from different residences, equipment types, fault scenarios, individual technicians, and environmental conditions. This data allows AI models to fully learn the entire process of how technicians handle tasks, including site inspection, system testing, tool selection, responding to unexpected situations, and judging whether the work meets standards.

The project's first phase launches in three US cities: Minneapolis, Chicago, and Miami, to acquire data across different climate environments. Essentially, HUMXN pays residents with free services in exchange for the right to record videos and collect real training data inside private homes.

How it got here

What is still unsettled
