AI CAD Startup Mach9 Raises $34M Series A After Pivoting from Hardware to Software Automation
Mach9 dropped its hardware focus to develop proprietary AI-powered CAD software, securing venture backing to address data conversion bottlenecks in civil engineering.
US-based AI CAD startup Mach9 announced on October 21, 2026, that it has closed a $34 million Series A funding round co-led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Prudence and Quiet Capital. Originally founded as Mach9 Robotics to provide visual inspection hardware for civil engineers, the company identified that the industry's bottleneck was not data capture devices, but the transformation of laser scan and image data into usable survey information and design decisions.
Consequently, Mach9 removed 'Robotics' from its name and pivoted to developing computer-aided design (CAD) software powered by proprietary in-house AI models. According to TechCrunch, the software is trained on multimodal image and laser scan datasets to automatically convert field survey data into centimeter-accurate geometry (such as curbs and pavement striping), claiming to be 10 times faster than legacy incumbent software like Autodesk and Bentley Systems. The company reports nearly 100 customers using its private beta across more than 2,500 projects.
The new funding will support product improvement, hiring industry experts, and scaling operations. Mach9's trajectory highlights a shift in construction technology: as reality-capture hardware becomes commoditized, value is migrating to software layers capable of automating complex data processing and generating compliant design drafts.
