Adobe announced on October 19, 2026, that its "Adobe Plugin" for ChatGPT has added interactive editing capabilities. This update leverages technologies from Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat to allow users to select and modify specific areas of images or text in PDFs directly within the chat interface.
Previously, users could only instruct the AI to perform tasks like background replacement or color adjustments through natural language prompts. The new feature introduces a side-panel editor where users can manually select objects (such as a car in a photo) or define regions, then combine AI requests with manual adjustment tools (like hue, saturation, and contrast sliders) for fine control. The system automatically displays relevant tools based on the editing actions, simplifying complex settings.
The functionality synchronizes AI-generated content with manual editing states. Any manual adjustments made in the editor are reflected in the workflow, so subsequent modification requests to ChatGPT do not require re-uploading the image or describing previous changes in detail. Additionally, PDF editing capabilities have been enhanced, allowing users to open documents via Acrobat technology in the sidebar, directly edit text or highlight sentences, and use AI to find contract clauses or answer related questions.
Adobe stated that this move aims to combine conversational AI workflows with professional-grade precision editing, letting users choose whether to delegate tasks to AI or make manual tweaks based on their needs. This is part of Adobe's recent strategy to unify its creative and productivity tools across platforms like ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, and Slack.
