Cybersecurity company Zscaler and AI code editor Cursor announced a partnership on October 18, 2026, aimed at helping enterprises securely adopt AI-assisted development on managed devices. As AI coding workflows extend beyond the editor to include accessing local files, executing terminal commands, using skills, and calling Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools, traditional application-layer security controls are insufficient to cover the risks posed by these agentic behaviors.
According to the announcement on Zscaler's official blog, the collaboration combines Cursor's platform-level enterprise controls with Zscaler AI Endpoint Security's endpoint visibility and policy enforcement capabilities. The solution allows security teams to identify Cursor deployments, including unmanaged installations, monitor how AI agents interact with development resources, software dependencies, and external services, and apply endpoint policies aligned with organizational requirements. This approach addresses issues such as shadow AI, configuration drift, and potential data exposure without unnecessarily interrupting legitimate development work.
