According to a report by tech outlet PhoneArena, prominent IT tipster @TheGalox_ has predicted on X that South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics may introduce its largest-ever Galaxy Z foldable smartphone lineup in 2027, comprising six distinct models. This forecast remains unconfirmed by Samsung.
The rumored devices include the Galaxy Z Slide, Galaxy Z Tri-fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro, Galaxy Z Fold 9, and Galaxy Z Flip 9. The 'Galaxy Z Slide' is particularly notable for allegedly introducing a new form factor where the display extends mechanically from the back of the device rather than folding, a concept linked to a Samsung patent from 2021.
The prediction also suggests Samsung will continue its push into the tri-fold market with the Galaxy Z Tri-fold 2, following up on its limited-edition first-generation model. Competitor Huawei has already launched commercial tri-fold phones like the Mate XT and plans further updates, potentially influencing Samsung's development pace.
While expanding the product line could accelerate foldable adoption, analysts warn of financial risks. Surging semiconductor demand driven by the AI boom has raised component costs, potentially pushing prices for these high-end foldables above $2,000. Samsung has already cut smartphone production volumes this year to manage losses, making the profitability of such a broad 2027 rollout uncertain.
