On October 19, at the 6th RISC-V China Summit, Meng Jianyi, Chief Scientist at Alibaba's DAMO Academy, revealed that the cumulative stable shipments of its "XuanTie" RISC-V processor IP brand have surpassed 6 billion units. This figure represents a 50% increase from the 4 billion mark first crossed in 2024, signaling significant expansion in the commercial adoption of this open-source architecture within China.
XuanTie is Alibaba's brand for processor core IPs developed based on the open RISC-V instruction set standard, covering series such as C for high-performance computing, R for real-time control, and E for low-power embedded systems. During the summit, DAMO Academy also launched the E908A, its first automotive-enhanced chip, further extending its application boundaries into the automotive electronics sector.
It is important to note that in the context of IP licensing, "shipments" typically refer to the total number of chips designed and manufactured by licensed customers using XuanTie IP, rather than hardware sold directly by Alibaba. This data is self-reported by the vendor and lacks independent third-party audits or detailed revenue breakdowns, though its magnitude remains a key reference metric for assessing the maturity of the RISC-V ecosystem.
