Abby Care, an AI-native home care startup founded by Havi Nguyen in 2022, announced it has raised an $82 million Series C funding round. The round was led by Transformation Capital, with participation from new investors including CVS Health Ventures, Frist Cressey Ventures, and Pivotal Ventures. Existing investors Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital, and Sequoia also doubled down on their positions.
The company operates a clinically led, AI-powered platform designed to train and certify family members to become paid caregivers. This model addresses the critical shortage of professional caregivers in the U.S. health care system, particularly for patients requiring ongoing home care. By leveraging family members who are already present and willing to provide care, Abby Care aims to create a more sustainable and responsive care delivery mechanism.
Havi Nguyen, CEO and founder of Abby Care, stated that the inspiration for the company came from her own experience navigating the complex American health care system while managing Medicaid paperwork for her immigrant family. "The question I kept asking myself was: Who’s that one person in the child’s life who’s not going to turn away, and is able to be with them to deliver that care?" Nguyen said. "Parents were always willing to raise their hand and step up."
Justin Brock, general partner at CVS Health Ventures, highlighted the massive need for such solutions, noting that traditional private duty nurse programs only fill 65% of authorized shifts. "It’s really leaving so many medically complex members without consistent coverage… [Meanwhile] you have these tens of millions of family caregivers who are in the home, and a lot of them are already doing care," Brock told Fortune.
