Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that through a collaboration with Apple and its new CEO John Ternus, Meta's open-weight multimodal model Muse Spark Open, released last week, can now run on Mac Studio. Simultaneously, the Mac version of the Muse app has been launched on the App Store.
This marks the first cooperation between Meta and Apple since their long-standing conflict during Tim Cook's era over App Store fees (Apple tax) and user privacy issues. Ternus responded that Mac desktops can efficiently perform calibration and expansion for Muse Spark Open, noting that Mac Studio continues to push the boundaries of desktop AI.
Muse Spark Open is a multimodal model with 816 billion parameters and 42 billion active parameters, designed for programming and AI agent tasks, supporting a 1 million token context window. The model features multi-step reasoning, tool calling, and end-to-end agentic task capabilities. Meta recommends integrating it into AI systems with other protective mechanisms rather than deploying it standalone.
