Korean physical AI startup Robay announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese robot hand specialist Linkerbot to jointly validate Robay's AI self-learning control platform, 'Robot Academy'.
The validation will target three of Linkerbot's commercial hardware products: the Linker Hand O6, Linker Hand L20 Light, and Linker Arm P7. Linkerbot holds over 80% of the global market share for high-degree-of-freedom (DOF) robot hands and surpassed 10,000 cumulative units shipped last December.
The core mechanism of 'Robot Academy' allows robots to autonomously explore their physical structures, such as joints and drive characteristics, without human intervention, similar to how humans learn motor skills. The companies plan to focus on assessing whether this AI-driven autonomous learning can reduce the burden of redeveloping and calibrating control software whenever the hardware form factor changes.
Jung Won-young, CEO of Robay, stated that this collaboration is a crucial starting point to confirm whether the platform can be applied to actual commercial hardware. No specific technical validation results or performance data have been released yet.
