Four Gemini 4 Argon agents autonomously defeated the Ender Dragon in a sandboxed Minecraft survival world, writing 2,783 programs over 27 hours and 14 minutes without human assignment of roles or game logic. This marks the first known end-to-end autonomous completion of Minecraft by AI agents using only the standard Mineflayer library, without pre-scouted seeds or human-written game-specific tools.
The experiment demonstrates frontier model capability in long-horizon tasks: the agents maintained a coherent plan across thousands of dependent steps for more than a day, coordinating via in-game chat and shared memory. Despite dying 605 times, researchers monitored the run but did not intervene. This result sets a new baseline for multi-agent collaboration and long-term coding autonomy, offering a concrete reference for evaluating automation potential in complex software engineering and enterprise tasks.
