Shanghai AI Lab announced on October 15 that the 3D Ghys conjecture, a world-class mathematical problem that had puzzled experts for over 30 years, has been solved. A team led by Xu Disheng, a visiting scholar at the lab and professor at Greater Bay Area University, completed the proof through human-AI collaboration using the Shusheng Scientific Multimodal Large Model S2 (Shusheng-S2).
According to the announcement, a team from Peking University led by Professor Dong Bin and Academician Liu Ruochuan used their SHEAF framework to formally verify the proof, confirming its correctness. The lab stated this marks the first time Chinese scientists have used a Chinese large model to conquer a world-class mathematical problem.
The related paper has been published on the arXiv preprint platform, and the formalization code is available on GitHub. It should be noted that this conclusion currently relies on the lab's self-report and internal verification by collaborating teams, and has not yet undergone widespread independent international peer review or reproduction.
