According to a report by CNET published on October 14, Apple has confirmed that the first-generation HomePod mini will not support the new Siri AI feature. In a statement, Apple explained that the chip and memory configuration of the original HomePod mini are insufficient to meet the computational requirements for running the local large language model needed for Siri AI.
This decision excludes users of the widely adopted first-generation HomePod mini from accessing the new context-aware Siri capabilities, despite the device's popularity as a smart home hub. Currently, Siri AI is available only on the HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K (second generation and later). For existing users seeking these features, a hardware upgrade is now a prerequisite.
