YouTube Music has launched a new labeling system to identify songs created with the help of generative AI. The labels appear on the player page, allowing listeners to see whether AI was involved in composition, vocals, or other aspects of the track's creation.
The system distinguishes between "Fully Gen AI" (entirely generated), "Partly Gen AI" (mixed with live elements), and "No Gen AI" (tracks using tools like Auto-Tune). This move follows similar initiatives by Spotify and upcoming plans from Apple Music, reflecting a broader industry shift toward transparency as AI-generated content floods streaming platforms.
YouTube stated that it collaborated with various music partners and deployed its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. Unlike Deezer, which excludes detected AI music from algorithmic recommendations, YouTube focuses on disclosure rather than blanket restrictions. AI involvement alone does not make a track ineligible for monetization.
