The UK government's £500 million Sovereign AI Fund announced on October 14 that it is investing in British AI security startup Augur. The fund aims to support domestic AI development through capital and compute resources.
Augur, co-founded by two former Palantir executives, uses AI to transform fragmented sensor networks into a real-time intelligence layer for national security and public safety. Its technology is currently used by Transport for London (TfL) to help security teams identify risks as they develop, rather than just recording footage for later review like traditional CCTV.
In addition to funding, the Sovereign AI Fund is granting Augur access to Isambard-AI, the UK's most powerful AI supercomputer, which the startup will use to train large, complex multi-camera datasets. Previously, Augur raised $15 million in a seed round led by Plural in June.
The fund did not disclose the specific amount invested in Augur. According to Tech.eu, the fund typically invests between £5 million and £10 million in Seed and Series A rounds, covering areas from AI model development to drug discovery and agentic AI.
