Tech blogger Simon Willison reported on October 9 that he used the voice conversation mode in the ChatGPT desktop app's Codex tab to build the main code for a new "Newsletters" page on his blog in about half an hour.
Willison described giving instructions via voice to GPT-6 Astra High running against a local development environment while cooking dinner. The model successfully generated Django models, migrations, and import scripts to fetch content from RSS feeds and GitHub repositories, integrating them into the site's search engine.
While voice interaction proved efficient for high-level logic and parallel tasks, Willison noted that he had to switch back to keyboard input for specific API key configurations and complex error debugging. He concluded that this mode is well-suited for multitasking scenarios but does not yet replace traditional typing as a daily driver for programming.
