GitHub Chief Operating Officer Kyle Daigle stated that as of early October, GitHub is roughly 60% through its migration to Azure.
The platform has faced significant infrastructure strain due to the rise of AI agents, including an eight-hour outage in August. Daigle emphasized that this is not a simple lift-and-shift but a major re-architecture separating compute and storage for Git to alleviate bottlenecks from concurrent developer and agent activity.
This move leverages Microsoft's scaling expertise to support GitHub's current load of 7.38 billion monthly commits. The timeline for completing the remaining 40% has not been disclosed.
